Edited on Wed Jan-10-07 10:44 PM by spooked
"We go forward with trust that the Author of Liberty will guide us through these trying hours. Thank you, and good night."

Does this mean that the BOMBING OF IRAN AND SYRIA IS JUST HOURS AWAY?!

10. Looking for breaking news out of Iran...
Some believe the attack will be coming from Israel...

Is U.S. President George W. Bush contemplating a U.S. air strike on Iran or permitting Israel to attempt one?

Bush's anticipated nationally televised address Wednesday follows the controversial report in the London Sunday Times citing sources in the Israeli military that Israel was planning an attack, possibly with tactical nuclear weapons, on at least three key Iranian nuclear facilities. The Israeli government denied the report.

Attributing comments to Israeli military sources, the Sunday Times said that "two Israeli air force squadrons are training to blow up an Iranian facility using low-yield nuclear 'bunker-busters.'"

"As soon as the green light is given, it will be one mission, one strike and the Iranian nuclear project will be demolished," the newspaper quoted one source as saying.

2. Author of Liberty?
I didn't watch the fool (I stopped watching him ages ago because I'd start yelling at the tv like an insane person). Did he really use that phrase? What the hell does it mean?

6. It means Gawd
Because the fundies insist that all liberty comes from God.

8. Yes, the implication is that God is actively at work here...
and Bush is only doing his bidding...

Lord, help us all?

12. I think it may be a line
from the song "My Country Tis of Thee". We had to sing this every morning when I was in kindergarten in the early 60's.

13. ...are endowed by their Creator w/inalienable rights... life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness

The idea is not dangerous at all. It echoes Thomas Jefferson. Yes, it's a nod to the base. It's not code for the coming theocracy.

Try and keep both eyes on the right target, friends.

17. It Is Definitely another reference to God...
While the Jefferson notion almost floats, Bush has used this before and the assumption was that it was a reference to God or The Creator. There are other references, unrelated to GWB of "Author of Liberty" in assocation with the Almighty as well.

Then again, the Clincher (as noted by dog_lovin_dem) there is: "My Country, 'Tis of Thee... ...Our fathers' God, to thee, author of liberty, to thee we sing"

Just another off-the-beaten-path wink/nod to part of his base.

19. 'Author of Liberty' sounds like something from 'The Tick'...yeah, I stopped watching
*, and in fact all broadcast news a few years ago for just that same reason. I got really tired of ranting at my television.

14. Scotter Ritter's been predicting we would attack Iran next June for two years.
Of course he first said it would be June 2005. Then he said June 2006. But obviously he can't be wrong about the "June" part of his prediction.

15. Whatever. I wasn't thinking of Scott Ritter at all.
Pat Lang, Juan Cole, John Landis, Marc Lynch, Helena Cobban, Larry Johnson -- people like that.

It helps to consult multiple sources when attempting to make a judgement.

to his speech, he may be talking about just trying to weather the immediate PR storm. He doesn't care about the troops, only his own sorry political ass!

Three explosions jolt southern Iran
The News - International, Pakistan - 48 minutes ago

TEHRAN: Three strong explosions jolted southern Iran on Thursday, the semi-official news agency reported, but gave no information about possible casualties.

"Three explosions were so strong that they shook windows of houses," the agency said.

It was not clear what had caused the explosions in Khorramshahr in the province of Khuzestan, which borders Iraq.
