My commentary on Bush's speech. It is unwontedly short.
Until we know what we're doing over there, it doesn't matter how many troops we're doing it with. I do not see any evidence here that Bush has any idea what he's doing.

As usual, they blew this up as a "major policy speech" and in fact what he's announced is that the policy is the same, the implementation is just slightly different.

I cannot wait for 2008. I am so sick of his bullshit. Not as sick of it as the families and loved ones of the 21,500 people who are going to get stuck surging for him, though.

3. Agree, nothing at all new, just different wording.
It's still about making us afraid.

I don't think there are enough afraid people anymore.

4. More assurances from an administration that has made blunder after
blunder in every policy area and that has shown itself thoroughly lacking. Zero confidence that the guys who got us into an untenable position can get us out...this has been proven once again. We must change horses in the middle of the stream...this one sinks like a stone. Can't wait for 2008.

5. We don't have to wait until 2008. Impeachment can happen in relatively short order.
If we want it, we can make our representatives do it. That's their job.

6. I can't help feeling that these people are doing theater.
It's a big horrid, bloody play that they wrote, casted and staged, but they are also the audience, sitting back and viewing their work, but not participating.

They don't have 21,500 combat troops ready to go--they've got about 9,000. So they're going to send the 9,000, plus 12,500 reservist cooks, data entry clerks and trombone players to go ride around in unarmored Humvees and get their asses blown off by IEDs, so Bush can say he didn't quit when his term is over, and the Right Wing Noisemaker Chorus can howl like intellectually stunted banshees when whichever poor, unlucky Democrat gets himself landslid into the White House tries to fix Bush's mess and get our people the fuck out of what will then be a Texas-sized free-fire zone, with American troops as everybody's favorite targets. Six months to get the surge ready to go, six months to implement the surge, six months of actual surging, six more months to give the surge a second chance, lots and lots more dead and wounded, and Bush is out, done, home free, off to fucking Paraguay to sit on top of his private aquifer, surrounded by adoring, post-menopausal girlfriends and Blackwater mercs. That's the plan, Stan.

10. "The implementation is slightly different"
Actually, it the same product, just in a resigned package. Like most things from the Bush regime, it's marketing.

The "centerpiece" of this "new" policy is to add 21,500 troops and called a "surge" rather than an escalation. That's not policy making, that's public relations.

You are right, Pladder, to challenge the notion that this was a major policy speech.

Now, for the world's safety and to make Americans safer, let's impeach and remove Bush and Cheney as soon as possible.
