I'm spitting nails!! My letter to my two Democratic Senators on Iraq: |
|
Dear Senator xxxxxxxxx,
Having listened to President Bush's speech on escalating the troop levels in Iraq and his intent to expand armed conflict across the Middle East, I demand that the US Congress act to reduce funding for all military operations within foreign countries.
This man failed to plan and execute a successful offensive against those who attacked the US on Sept. 11, 2001. Over five years later, those responsible are still at large. That equals a failure of leadership and a betrayal of the US.
Instead, George Bush, pushed for a 'war' with Iraq, a country which was no threat to the USA. His arguments were based on proven lies and his stated reasons seemed to omit the real one: giving control of Iraq's oil reserves to private corporations. For the last four years the situation in Iraq has grown steadily worse, both in deaths and financial cost. That equals a failure of leadership and a betrayal of the US.
It is time to end our involvement in Iraq. BRING THE TROOPS HOME NOW. It is time to begin impeachment proceedings against both the President and Vice President for violation of international and US laws. Both should be tried as war criminals in the Hague. IMPEACHMENT is on the table. All NeoCon advisors to this administration should also be held responsible for the deaths of 3018 American soldiers and 655,000 Iraqis.
American citizens have had enough. It is time to end the reign of terror brought to us by NeoCon 'thinkers' and the military-industrial complex. We want our country back.
Sincerely, sinkingfeeling

You had me until Impeachment. Sorry, you go too far when you start talking about war crimes and the Hague. Stay in reality and argue for what you actually may be able to get -- reduced funding.

Impeachment, although it's something I would love to see and there's certainly evidence for it, is something the House and Senate just will not do right now. I trust you had whoever was reading it up until you mentioned Impeachment and the Hague. Other than that, it was a wonderfully written, strong letter. Good job.

6. Impeachment is entirely on the table |
|
now after the delusional president's denial of the will of the people. His intent to escalate with no chance to win, and no concern for our troops. Impeachment becomes more evident the only option that will stop this Moron who acording to him hears voices! How long will we tolerate this delusion.

7. to start with i would say, give them some time. |
|
they cant pass anything bush doesnt want because he will veto it and I dont think they can get enough republicans on board for overriding vetoes concerning the war.
what they do have is control over all new funding. he will be coming back and asking for money and there is next years budger and any of the budgets left over from last session.
bush has no money without congress.
give it a little time, its a very screwed up situation and cooperation from republicans to fix it is limited.
i would like to see him impeached too of course because I think the entire exectutive branch is full of criminals but im not sure we could ever muster the votes to convict in the senate, maybe if the crimes they uncovered were obvious enough to get repubs on board but they are a stubborn group.

9. Republicans are running from Bush |
|
I think a lot more will be possible than you think. The Republican House and the Republican Senators running in 2008 will seek to dissassociate themselves from George W Bush. 67 votes for impeachment might be possible given sufficient and careful airing of the Bush/Cheney crimes. Our House must impeach. Our Senate must convict. Or, toss them all out on '08, I say!
