New Chairman Of Armed Services SubCommittee: "Rice Is Most Overrated-Underperforming Exec Ever Seen"
New Chairman of Armed Services Subcommittee Blasts Condi Rice, Aims to Block Bush Surge Plan
January 11, 2007 5:19 PM

Rhonda Schwartz Reports:

The gloves are off in the new Congress. Hawaii Democratic Congressman Neil Abercrombie, the outspoken new Chairman of the powerful House Air-Land Subcommittee, has gone on the record with a highly personal attack on Bush's Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Abercrombie referred to Rice as "the most overrated underperforming individual in executive authority that I have ever seen" in an interview published this week in the "Honolulu Star Bulletin."

In response to a follow-up question by Star Bulletin columnist Richard Borreca whether race or gender had anything to do with it, Abercrombie continued, "She constantly gets a pass. Who knows if the whole question of race and gender come into it? But I can't account for it except to say she isn't up to the mark."

1. While I totally agree with him
I think he could have done better when asked if race or gender were factors. The answer should have been a absolute "no".

Was the reporter a white male. What a crock of shit, and what a stupid answer the congressman gave.

3. Even though race and gender ARE factors in reality, you are correct
Acknowledging it only creates flamebait and detracts from Rice's very real lack of accomplishment.

4. My read of it was that
he was saying he didn't know if she gets the "pass" from others because of race or gender. He can't possibly know what factors others consider.

6. I hope that is what he meant.
However, when it would have been more helpful if he had stated that those were not factors that were in his any criticism.

Just about every member of Bush's administration is considered unsuitable and their performance is (on this board) is considered substandard. Only when they are white males is it stated that they are unqualified on their merits. If they are female or of a definite ethnic group, why do we have to consider that a a factor. That smacks of racism and sexism. People can be unqualified just because they don't measure up, regardless of their sex and race.

If the Soviet Union ever reforms, we may give you a call. Otherwise, just quit and go to work for Carlyle.
