1. You can opt out on offers - contact the credit agencies. |
|
On the credit offers it lists the 3 reporting agencies and their contact numbers. You can contact them and ask that they not sell your information to people wanting to offer you new credit. I think it's even automated. You just punch in your social security number.
Some states have also given you the right to freeze your credit too. No one can even run a credit report on you unless you first contact the reporting agencies with the creditor and the amount of credit you are applying for.

2. You can opt-out of pre-screened credit offers |
|
I did a few years ago and it has greatly reduced the number of credit card apps coming to me. I'm lucky to get one a month now. http://www.optoutprescreen.com/http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/prescreen.htm

6. Dont get me started on Capital One |
|
My boyfriend got a credit card from them. He has bad credit but they gave him one anyway.
They tack on fees for any stupid reason they feel like coming up with. They suck. It's making his credit worse, not better. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Whenever I get anything from Capitol One, I carefully open the envelope, remove its contents, and find the postage-prepaid envelope. Everything else I shed, including the original envelope, and I put the shreds back into the postage-prepaid envelope, and send it back to them, on "THEIR" dime.
If those BMFs (that stands for Bitch Mother-Fuckers) won't leave me alone, then they can pay to have their own shit mailed back to them. And it doesn't cost me anything. And it makes me feel better!
