Right-wing email thats going around.
My dad sent me this, forwarded from an acquaintance...I include my own responses. I'm sure they could be better, but hey, I didn't have all day :)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Democrats have promised "A New Direction For America". One can only wait with baited breath to see what this means... especially in light of the following:

* Unemployment is at 25 year lows. A new direction from there means, what?

Yes, and people have been forced to take jobs in the service industry, making half the money they were before the wonders of Globalization. We don't need a middle class anyways. Or health care.

* Oil prices are plummeting. A new direction from there means, what?

Plummeting from record highs. This is a ridiculous statement. Oil was at $20 a barrel under Clinton.

* Taxes are at 20 year lows. A new direction from there means, what?

I didn't get a tax break. Neither did 90% of the US public. And if Bill believes tax breaks, at the expense of running up the deficit is a good thing, he should load up on Credit Cards with his grand-children as co-applicants, and max them out.

* The Federal deficit is down almost 50%, just as predicted over last year. A new direction from there means, what?

Yes, only going in debt half us much as last year is sound economic policy. Especially since the dollar is falling through the floor. At least the real value of what your grandchildren pay back for your folly won't be worth as much. Oh, and under Clinton, we had a surplus.

* Not a single terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11/01.

I'm sure Madrid and Bali feel very good about that. The WTC got hit in 1992, and not again till 2001. I guess Clinton did a better job fighting terrorism. Meanwhile, a right-wing whacko killed 100+ people in Oklahoma City, and another one mailed anthrax AFTER 9/11 to top democrats and news anchors.

* Just as President Bush foretold us on a number of occasions, Iraq was to be made "ground zero" for the war on terrorism -- and just as President Bush said they would, terrorist cells from all over the region are arriving from the shadows of their hiding places and flooding into Iraq in order to get their faces blown off by US Marines rather than boarding planes and heading to the United States to wage war on us here.

Yes, I'm sure Al-Quada closed down their Kansas City office in order to go to Iraq. Instead, Bush delivered them an oil-rich nation where they can train and vett terrorists in battle. Pentagon estimates show that recruitment for Al-Quada is at an all-time high, due to the radicalization of middle-easteners due to the invasion of Iraq.

Other things Bush has "Foretold" us:

* Saddam has WMD's
* Saddam was connected to Al-Quada
* Mission Accomplished!
* We are winning the war in Iraq!
* We don't need more boots on the ground!
* Trading Mangos for Nukes in India is a good idea.
* We will be treated as liberators!
* Last Throws of the Insurgency! Dead Enders! (Cheney)
* The list goes on and on..I don't want to clog up the "tubes" the internets are made of.

Nostradamus better watch out!

* I can gain comfort by knowing that Nancy P, Hillary C, John K, Edward K, Howard D, Harry R and Obama have worked hard to create a comprehensive National Security Plan, Health Care Plan, Immigration Reform Plan, Gay Rights Plan, Same Sex Marriage Plan, Abortion On Demand Plan, Tolerance of Everyone and Everything Plan, How to Return all Troops to the U.S. in The Next Six Months Plan, A Get Tough Plan, adapted from the French Plan by the same name and a How Everyone Can Become as Wealthy as We Are Plan.

Don't worry, noone will have to "Tolerate" your point of view anymore :)

1. You did great!
Good comebacks. Facts always smack down lies.

The Republicans screwed up everything so much, any improvement at all is an improvement, but it still isn't as good as where we were before they mucked everything up.

I've got a few Pukes in my family, and it's been a real challenge lately not going off on them. I sometimes wonder if they're really my family... :eyes:

2. Family before politics.
Even if they drink the cool-aid, noone has the monopoly on truth :)

6. Facts have a monopoly on the truth.

Family or not.

15. Sometimes a family member's politics sets the tone for the relationship.
Considering the way the very few wingnuts on my husband's side have behaved in the past, adding space and taking control of the relationship was the best thing we ever did. We live in a much more peaceful place within ourselves now that we've laid the pipe for the future, so to speak.

If you have a rabid homophobe in the family, they may not necessarily be someone you want your kids spending tons of quality time with.

If family members are putting their politics above a relationship, then sometime you just gotta know when to cut your losses. I would make an exception for parents and siblings, unless the rabid homophobe is one of them and the homosexual is you.

And while no one has a monopoly on the truth, there are some things that simply are not truthful. Believing in a lie doesn't suddenly make it the truth. If that were the case, I'd be a millionaire. Believing that saddam had WMDs doesn't make it true, no matter how hard some want to believe it to be true.

8. The intended audience for this drivel just does not think for themselves.
And they're not high school dropouts either. I know bushbots with Master's degrees who swallow this idiocy whole.

14. But rebutting such utter stupidity and then hitting the "Reply To All" button...
..is such fun.

I've gotten venomous hate mail from people that I don't even know.

I also noticed I don't get stupid, emotionally manipulative, nationalistic, xenophobic RW e-mails much anymore; apparently people don't like being exposed as an ignorant ass to all of their e-mail buddies.

10. And when did they get back from OZ to report all this, because
it certainly has nothing to do with Kansas or the rest of the USA?

12. I saw this last night...
and responded as well. I reiterated similar points. However I pointed out the following:

1) Unemployment is calculated based on the number of unemployment claims made weekly. After 18 months, people run out of unemployment payments. Therefore they drop off the Unemployment statistics. This number is artifically deflated.

2) There was one segment about inflation at its lowest rate in 15 yrs. I pointed out that that's true for Oct and Nov of 2006. However for the whole year, the average was 3.99%. During Clinton, the average was in the 2% range. Reference InflationData.com.

3) The first WTC attack occurred 2 months after Clinton took office. I don't recall his adminstration blaming Bush I or Reagan. Second, the mastermind behind that attack is sitting in prison. Where's Bin Laden?

4) I don't recall an Abortion on Demand Plan, A Get Tough Plan, and the other ridiculous plans listed there.

Good responses overall.
