6. And now he's banging war drums against Iran and Syria. When will this madness end? |
|
BTW...I've been for Impeachment since no WMDs were found in Iraq and I read that Cheney's group was behind cooking Intelligence. I was against the war from the get go and knew it was all bull.

My post is for those who fail to see that mere investigations without real bite won't stop these ideologues, so I thought it would be good to ask the question in conjunction with your post.

7. Who knows how they draw that conclusion from the election. |
|
I believe that most Americans want "success" in Iraq in the sense that we wish the best for the Iraqi people and think that is more likely to happen after we withdraw.

12. Personally, I believe that most Americans don't give a damn about the Iraqis. |

We were being sold that we were under imminent danger from Iraq and that Iraq had a hand in 9/11. The truth came out and Americans just want out. Success is not important, getting out of there is

15. Your harsh judgment of Americans may be more accurate than mine. |
|
Most people I know, many who are not Democrats or liberals (there not being many of either of those in my county) do not wish death and mayhem on Iraqis. They view Iraqi civilians as victims of first Saddam and now caught between the US military and the insurgents (patriotic resistance, whatever).
Do most of my acquaintances think more about their own situations (jobs, families, health, schools, communities) than they do about Iraqis? Sure. If that makes them particularly evil or uncaring, then so be it. I believe that their attitudes are fairly typical of people around the world.
"Our" success in Iraq is, indeed, not important. "Success" for the Iraqi people is important to me, in the sense that I do not wish violence and oppression on any people. While nothing is life is guaranteed, I think that success for Iraqis is more likely after we leave, so I support our withdrawal.

as the same and all are guilty concerning 9/11. The give away is they have no moral misgivings about illegal detentions and torture without trials.

16. Most Americans probably view success for Iraqis the same way they define |
|
success for themselves - job, health, freedoms, family. That is the only frame of reference that they have, even though it is unrealistic and irrelevant to the issues that Iraqis face.
