Jacob Cherian - All Headline News Staff Writer
Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Though Congress' new Democratic leaders are not in favor of President Bush's plan to bump up troops in Iraq, profits at defense companies will go up as much as 20 percent this year, according to Erik Becker, co-manager of Waddell & Reed Advisors Core Investment Fund.

He predicts similar gains are stocks are also in store for the year.

In fact, when Becker was recently promoted to manage a $4.2 billion fund, his first move to buy shares of Lockheed Martin Corp., the largest defense contractor in the U.S.

A report by Bloomberg News confirms that Democratic concern over Iraq will not prevent the Pentagon from spending on missiles, rockets, armored Humvees and Stryker troop transports in support of U.S. operations in Iraq.
