What the hell is wrong with Rangel? Now he's fighting Pelosi on raising taxes for $500k+ earners
http://www.nypost.com/seven/01122007/news/nationalnews/rangel_rankled_by_fellow_dem_pelosi_nationalnews_geoff_earle______post_correspondent.htm

Powerhouse New York Rep. Charles Rangel is butting heads with fellow Democrat Nancy Pelosi just a week into the new Congress controlled by their party, The Post has learned.

Rangel yesterday swatted down a tax hike that Pelosi has floated, and he made an end run around her decision to bypass House committees in a rush to bring bills to a vote.

"There's a lot of tension there," one Democratic lawmaker said of the relationship between Rangel and Pelosi.

Rangel, who took over the powerful Ways and Means Committee after 36 years in Congress, smacked down the idea Pelosi raised on Sunday of repealing tax cuts for those earning more than $500,000 per year.

"We haven't gotten that far to be talking about tax increases," Rangel told The Post. "She hasn't discussed it with me . . . We haven't gotten into tax policy."

1. Beware of what you read in this RW rag. i'm thinking this just might
be a floated "rumor" to try to convince people that the Dems are infighting.

2. He still wants to do it the old way.
Plus he is an old man, and probably does not like taking orders from a woman, a younger woman at that. He does not understand that this is a different time with different needs. And who knows, he might be right that all the T's need to be crossed and all the I's need to be dotted. But I would go with Pelosi wanting to get it done quickly and stop this administration as much as possible.

5. Rangel didn't say anything at all except he and Pelosi haven't talked yet
The rest of the story is just the NYPost making up stuff around unnamed sourced quotes.

6. How could you possibly know this?

You just slammed Rangel as a sexist old fart that doesn't understand the times based on absolutely no reality based information whatsoever......

Geez........

9. I don't trust rangel as far as I can throw him
I don't care what his political point is. You don't fuck around with bills about the draft.

15. See? Having the guts to say we need to defend ourselves
Not use a completely mercenary army, is one of the things I like best about the man.

He's got sense and he's got guts. But I understand why the delicate asses of the middleclass might not want to go thru the fun years of Viet Nam again. Nonetheless, Rangel's right.

13. Sorry I offended you
I spoke too quickly but I still don't agree with him on the draft. My only excuse was I had just got off the phone with my ex and he is a sexist old fart.

3. Well, when the pugs didn't like the decisions of
the House Ethics Committee, they exchanged them for someone more amenable. Just sayin'. Her goals were clear from the beginning. "Tax Increase" my foot. Is he tainted?

'nuff said

Swatting down the Speaker? yeah right

The only real quote they have is Rangel saying he and Pelosi hasn't talked yet.

16. Rangel has survived decades of New York and DC politics.
If he and Nancy have a dispute, they both know how to compromise and come to an acceptable agreement.

14. To everyone on this thread.
My apologies for saying anything bad about any democrat besides Lieberman (who is technically not a democrat anyway). Reasons for why I might have done so, there is no excuse for it because I am responsible for what I say.

1) I didn't take time to notice it was the NY Post. I know their reputation and would not believe anything they said.
2) I was too quick to jump to judgment on a situation I knew nothing more than what the article said.
3) Had just got off the phone with my ex who is hard to deal with sometimes and was probably influenced by my feeling toward him.

Again, I apologize.

19. Thank you. That's a very heartfelt apology. .
FWIW, I don't mind criticism of any Dem as long as it's well founded. And as long as the critic appears to have passed 7th grade civics if not polysci 101.
