Next thing we know everyone will be meditating in the jungle and grabbing swords.

Check out his picture...Must be meditating...?

Also known as Ram Bahadur Bomjon, the 16-year-old BB is a spiritual celebrity who disappeared into the jungles of Nepal in March and reappeared on Christmas day. (Notably, carrying a sword—on Christmas. “I came not to bring peace but a sword,” said Christ in Matthew 10.) The news is all over this kid.

Buddha boy reappears in Nepal

Teen some think is reincarnation said he was meditating in jungle

12:00 AM CST on Wednesday, December 27, 2006
Associated Press

KATMANDU, Nepal – A missing teenage boy who many believe is the reincarnation of Buddha has reappeared in the jungles of southern Nepal months after he went missing, an official said Tuesday.

Ram Bahadur Banjan, 15 or 16, was last seen March 11 in a forest where he had meditated for 10 months, allegedly without food and water. Thousands of Hindus and Buddhists flocked to see him every day.

The teen disappeared from his meditating spot among the roots of a tree in Bara, about 100 miles south of the capital Katmandu, where he had sat cross-legged and motionless with his eyes closed.

He was spotted by cattle herders in the jungle Sunday, and a team of police and officials was sent to investigate Monday, said Harihar Dahal, an administrative official in the area.

Speaking to those gathered around him, Ram said he had been at the same spot for three days.

"Apparently there were some people who spotted me. I was deep in meditation and did not even know that there were people around," he said.

5. There are many many examples of people doing "supernatural things"
Edited on Fri Jan-12-07 07:11 PM by Flabbergasted
It may be a scam however..

Although the articles I found didn't say "fasted"....

11. I think you mean "many -reports- of ...supernatural things"
From the OP:

"Ram Bahadur Banjan, 15 or 16, was last seen March 11 in a forest where he had meditated for 10 months, allegedly without food and water."

That sounds pretty much like what I've always imagined 'fasting' to be...

4. Think of the guys who made it with a "new" religion.
It's better than having your own printing press.

What IS the religion of the radical right? Jesus with a machine gun in his hands? Seriously, I want to know. Who dreamed up this religion? What, specifically, in detail, IS this goddamn religion?

Sorry, I am off topic. This shit just drives me crazy.

7. Ok, for all you disbelievers
realize the kid is out doing his thing--he isn't making the ruckus about what he's doing. It's the people who are watching him who are.

8. What sword?
It's inconsistent with Buddhism and I didn't notice one mentioned in the larger article, only in the music blog. The discussion of the hand position in that blog was spot on, though.

There are better ways to scam ignorant villagers than sitting in a tree and doing the hard work of deep meditation, and there's no mention of a fortune, just scraps and water donated to him. That IS consistent with heavy duty Buddhism.

I hope he gets his wish and finds a spot nobody goes looking for him in.

14. No, the sword's a Buddhist symbol.
The Boddhisatva Manjusri kept a flaming sword he used to cut through ignorance and hatred.

18. He claims the sword he was carrying is for his protection from wild animals.
Apart from his customary long hair, Bomjan was also carrying a sword. Looking plumper than he was when he disappeared 10 months ago, the Buddha boy was meditating in the bushes. When asked why a person who believes in non-violence has ended up possessing a sword, he answered, "Gautam Buddha used to arrange for his security himself. I was forced to do so as well."

Also

When asked what should be done with donations that his followers may make, he urged that anything could be done
with the money as long as it is not used in business or misused.

I first read about this kid nearly a year ago. I say let him be. Cannot be an easy pass time of ANY kid to sit under a tree for over a year. Let alone one looking to scam others for their own gain.

It certainly wouldn't be easy for me. I even have to pull away from the computer now and again and this is far more interesting then being alone with my thoughts.

If some want to believe he is "special"..so be it. It does not affect me in the slightest.

That's what I would have done.

So, I may be projecting a little.
