2. Ice is the one thing that
makes me cringe. Snow, no problem. Ice ... just too much of a chance for that power to go out and I've no generator or other source of heat.

Stay safe. We're under a watch now - don't have cable to watch the Weather Channel and the local stations are pretty well sucking when it comes to what the outlook here is.

9. Have you considered "Weatherbug"?
Here's the website: http://ww2.weatherbug.com/aff/default.asp?zcode=Z4117&gclid=CNK7jsST4IkCFRVkYAodKQiPGw

I have the Pro (paid) version, and am on DSL. My computer is almost always on, and it now shows 21 degrees F. in the lower right of my screen. Clicking on it brings up a lot more weather info than I really care to think about. I can set it for several other locations, and last year, one of them was Camp Casey. (I was concerned about Cindy's welfare). There's a "free" version, without too much intrusive crap. I see no reason why it won't work properly on dial-up, if that's a problem.

10. You can watch the AccuWeather Channel over the internet--
http://www.live-online-tv.com/tv/accuweather.html

I don't have cable, either, but these channels will work just as well.

We're having torrents of ice and thunder right now in OKC--everybody stay safe!

3. Strom warnings here, too.
We have freezing drizzle right now with 6-12 inches of snow expected. I'm a little excited about that but I hope no one gets hurt on the roads. We haven't had much snow at all yet this season. The first one is cool - again, if no one gets hurt.

In Iowa once we had freezing rain that caused many trees and power lines to fall. It was eery and you are right, it looks just like a war zone. You could hear the trees fall every few minutes. We had chainsaws going and limbs lining the streets for weeks after that.

6. We had a beautiful sassafras tree in our front yard, the limbs are on the ground
the trunk looks so naked and there is nothing I can do about it. I had to go into town, 3/4 mile or so, and pick up the wife from work this morning and it looks like something right out of a movie or something, trees, powerlines down everywhere. This is the worst we've had in a long long time. infact the last time it was like this was in '68

8. Where in Iowa are you, Inspired?
We're in Iowa County and we have blowing snow advisories now, but here is just a dusting on the ground and hardly any wind now. Advisory was supposed to expire at 9 am. It's really overcast to the point that the house is dark enough to need to turn the lights on. It's cold. I'm turning the radiant heat in ceiling on for a while to take the edge off.

11. Des Moines
and we hear it was going to start sometime this afternoon. It is very overcast here, too. It sounds like we have the same conditions in Iowa City and the Des Moines area.

5. I guess I need to go out and take some pictures
Of course that would entail getting dressed. And it was hard enough getting off the couch to make coffee.
