I knew that this bizarrely inspired thing had a role to play. At first, I thought it may be simply to spread smiles.

Which also got me to thinking.

I don't want the proceeds. If I took them, I'd use them to donate to progressive causes.

Which got me to thinking again.

I would sell more if I focused on one cause.

Katrina victims came to mind first.

Then Comic Relief.

dearest helderheid PMed me several times late last night when spirit so compelled her to donate all the proceeds to charity. I was in dreamland so didn't respond to her privately until this morning.

I responded to her with several thoughts. . .

This is a slightly modified version of one of them:

I feel donating the profits to charity is a wonderful idea but I'm wondering if we could also support an Election Reform non profit organization.

Since that is the very issue that gave birth the election day prayer & thread and subsequently the chant, it may be more than a little appropriate.

Raising awareness of the dire need for election reform will also insure over time, more ethical and humane leadership which will also eventually help all those displaced and still suffering from Katrina. So both causes are sort of interdependant, not at cross purposes, and most worthy.

Any feedback to this effort in progress would be welcomed and much appreciated.

I appreciate you offering these ideas and I couldn't agree more about the interdependence of the voting issue and Katrina. Can you imagine had we had fair elections how different Katrina would have been handled? Without a vote, we have no voice.
