Sorry Mr. Bush - The Constitution Says: You Are NOT The Decider On This!
Edited on Mon Jan-15-07 10:26 AM by kpete
The Constitution says That Congress gets to DECIDE when, how and if we go to war.
The president only gets to decide what it is that the various services get to do once Congress declares war.

Article I, Section 8:
The Congress shall have the power....
To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;
To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two years;
To provide and maintain a Navy;
To make Rules for the government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;
To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;
To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress.
....
Article II, Section 2:
The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States;....

4. But what about the National Security Act. I'm trying to understand
if and how it ceded war powers to the Executive.

Having trouble cutting and pasting this am, but here's a least a link to a description at the State Dept site:

5. what makes you think ANY democrat will do something about this?
the dems are not challenging bush on his unconstituional use of signing statements, which appear nowhere in the constitution. he can write them all he wants but when he attempts to implement one, he is guilty of violating his oath of office. yet the dems say and do nothing.

While I would like to see the dems overturn the iraq war resolution, AND impeach Bush if he launches any attack on Iran, I have seen no evidence that the dems would do either of the above.

the first 100 hours thing is fine, shows leadership, implementing things that are good to do, and now, let's get on to saving the nation from the fascists in charge.

BTW, has either of the bush twins joined the military yet so the bush family will actually have the chance to sacrifice something for the good of the nation?

6. I hate these people they are unleashing chaos on everyone
Dick Cheney is a ignorant and arrogant evil man so is Bush they are defying the American People, and the laws. I am not placing too much faith in our Congress right now, we are the only ones who can stop this shit, or will the Iranians and Venezuela just pull the oil away from us, if this happens this will shake up everyone of those thugs drastically.
