Biden calls for removal of Confederate flag
Sen. Joseph Biden, a Democratic presidential hopeful joining fellow Sen. Christopher Dodd at Martin Luther King Jr. holiday events, said Monday he thinks the Confederate flag should be kept off South Carolina's Statehouse grounds.

"If I were a state legislator, I'd vote for it to move off the grounds -- out of the state," the Delaware senator said before the civil rights group held a march and rally at the Statehouse here to support its boycott of the state.

In Chicago, Sen. Barack Obama, also prominently mentioned in speculation about the White House sweepstakes in 2008, was a hit at a Rainbow/PUSH Coalition breakfast honoring King, even if he didn't deliver what much of the crowd clearly wanted: a declaration that he will run for president.

Obama received a standing ovation at the annual King scholarship breakfast when the Rev. Jesse Jackson introduced him with an approving reference to the Illinois Democrat's presidential aspirations.

1. Wow, Biden comes down on the side of the Union!
Now, if he just was serious about defunding and stopping the war, he might really get my respect.

2. No, don't get sidetracked. Focus, focus, focus. Priorities.
Iraq. 100 Hours. Iraq. 100 Hours.

Deal with the flag later.

3. hell yes no_hypo
this is where they (dems) always fall apart. they allow themselves to be distracted like a 5 year old after eating pixie sticks. there is no hope for the dems. i believe that the repukes are evil and the dems are indifferent. i hate people who are lukewarm. at least the repukes are upfront about being hateful, but the dems allow people to give them credit for being moderate when they never really do anything. whatever happened to november 7? we said that we wanted the troops out of iraq and now the surge is done and the march to iran is well underway....
wtf?

4. Amen.
Biden should keep his yap shut. He has "Bill Maher's disease" and just SAYS TOO MUCH on occasion. This flag-flap could lose back a lot of southerners we gained through Shrub's stupidity and stubbornness. Watch for Rush to pounce on it.

7. Damn Straight
With all of the crap going on, with plans to attack Iran, with all of the Constitutional crises going on, THIS is the topic Biden wants to take on??? I guess taking MLK's stance on war was too much for him, he had to pick at something that wouldn't cause Dick and Georgie to get upset with him. I'll bet Rove loves this, it is just the sort of thing that gets people riled up in the South to no good end. I can't stand the Confed flags either, but ye Gods, we have bigger fish to fry.

8. Flag comment not a big deal
Keep in mind that Biden was speaking on the South Carolina State House steps. The Confederate flag flies in plain view from this location, to which it was moved after being removed from the State House Dome. It is in an "in-your-face location" for rallies. I am not surprised that he mentioned it, given the location. I doubt that he will lose any votes here. The people who support the continued presence of the flag are unlikely to support any Democrat.
