Looks like Al Gore is being smoked out on the 2008 Presidential Election...
Seems to me that *someone* wants Al to declare Yes or No on the 2008 run.

Reuters: No Al Gore in U.S Presidential race

I Googled for Gore news and only Reuters is carrying the "no run" story and it says he was asked if he would run in 2008 and he is quoted as responding "I'm involved in a different kind of campaign" - his standard "no comment" answer.

I find it strange he would make such a big announcement to a Japanese audience first.

Look for the US media to quickly pickup the story and force Al to either live with it or issue a denial.

2. Who cares now? Once the D field gets going the question will be asked repeatedly anyway
As the relative weakness of most of the field becomes more evident, let's say the weathervane Obama, the DLC mascot Hillary and John Kerry are left in May or June 2008, won't we be looking for an alternative?

(Not that I agree about Obama.) I hope they don't succeed in smoking Gore out. The timing you mention would be perfect.

7. Unless the Primaries are inconclusive, May or June 2008 will be too late...
Ideally, Al should announce Oct. or Nov. this year...the primaries are front loaded and there will probably be a candidate by March 2008..

11. He will announce based on his determination of the chances
for success based on potential contenders for the nomination. If he thinks he can win against, say Hillary, then he will announce as late in the campaign as possible to minimize the time for swift-boating efforts to pay off.

Which means we have more than a year before we can expect him to make his move. In the meantime, those of us who long to see Al Gore get his just reward after having it stolen from him will and should continue to wage our grassroots campaign to generate buzz and support for a possible run by Gore for President in the 2008 election.

3. On the LBN thread, janx found a conflicting Reuters quote:
The one-time presidential candidate did not answer questions from the media on Monday. None of the business executives at the event asked him about rumors that he might build on the higher profile created by his environmental campaign to stand for the presidency again.

22. I don't think so.
The debates are really for the sole purpose of getting to know each candidate and finding out where they stand on the issues. Most people know where Al Gore stands. He's made it public knowledge what he thinks about the Iraq War, the federal dficit, the tax cuts, health care, wiretapping...everything...and ESPECIALLY global warming. I saw an article recently which stated that political advisors are predicting global warming to be the number one issue in 2008. Moreso than the war in Iraq or terrorism. The press have certainly never done Al Gore any favors, so I think he is doing the right thing by avoiding them. He can wait it out just about as long as he wants up until the primaries.

I recently saw an article on him that said "Al Gore used to come across as cold. Now he's just cool." I love that. He may as well let the other candidates have their slug-fest and he just keeps on riding the popularity wave that he is on, and stay out of the fray.

Most people believe that Al Gore really did win in 2000. Americans do share a certain fairness about them. I think his surge in popularity, the issue of global warming, and the fact that most people know he should already be president will make this easy for him, as long as he doesn't let the press kill him. The longer he stays away from them, the better off he'll be. At least that's what I think.

26. I Get A Tingle When I See The Support Al Gets Here At DU
If this is an indication of the support he'll receive in the Democratic primaries, then he certainly has enough backing to give him an excellent shot at becoming the nominee.

I worry about the MSM, the Hillary/Obama factor, and anything else which might serve to blow up any prospects he may have.

I really believe it comes down to who is the most capable of leading this country NOW, especially given the dire situation we find ourselves in, which could be even worse 24 months from now.

That and the fact he was entitled to the office, but for a historical injustice perpetrated by the so-called Supreme Court entering into a states rights issue.

Re-Elect President Al Gore.

31. Al Gore Rocks!
His concession speech after the 12/12/2000 Supreme Court decision/debacle/coup de court was a masterful embrace of statesmanship. His credibility is unquestionable, despite the drumbeat of RW ridicule and hostility.

I predict that he will win an Acacemy Award for Best Documentary and take the following six months to do a book tour, complete with C-SPAN coverage and the usual talking-head interview circuit, where he will be his usual (post - 2000) brilliant, enthusiastic self, articulate and engaging. Come October or November, he will announce his candidacy, and run a populist, take-no-prisoners campaign to Take Back America from the collectively insane Repubelican Party.

I think that, even if he ran as an Independent, he would win in a landslide.

He's a throwback to 1776, and he was raised and educated to be the President of the United States, with more experience than any other person in the country barring WJC.

His election would raise the average IQ of American presidents by double digits.

So...Media wants it all "locked up and tidy" and yet the Left Wing/Anti-War Wing (so-called) of the Dem Party is biding their time until they FORCE GORE into the race........WAY LATE...just in the NICK OF TIME where he BLOWS THE REST OF THEM OUT OF THE WATER!!!!

I know ...this sounds like wishful thinking or hyperbole from me...but GORE can COME IN at ANY TIME...and he will have the MONEY AND SUPPORT!

He can't come in "too soon" because Media and other Candidates Machines will Trash him...and he doesn't really have to come in at all ...UNLESS HE HAS A MANDATE from US!

All I can say is, GOOD FOR HIM. Why the hell should HE have to clean up the mess that we allowed to take place in this country? When he did stand, we did not stand with him all the way. And now he has found a higher calling that in my view surpasses any presidency. I am happy for him and support him 100% in this calling, as it is a calling we all must have in order to save this planet. You are a great man, Mr. Gore no matter which path you choose to take and I love you so much for daring to now do what you were stifled from doing all of those years you beat your head against that political brick wall. You are now letting your glory out.

41. Don't Ask - Don't Tell
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 09:40 AM by Apollo11
I guess Al Gore is getting tired of being asked the question.

If I met him right now I would tell him: "Lots of people wish you would run again for President. I hope you will keep your options open as long as possible."

Several times in on-the-record interviews Al Gore has been asked to rule out running in 2008, and each time he has refused to do so. My feeling is that he is keeping his options open.

He is already preparing to start a national debate about how America is governed, by launching his next book - "The Assault on Reason" - on May 22.

So in late May and early June we can expect to see a lot more of Al Gore. By coincidence - right around the time that speculation around the 2008 election will be warming up!

Nobody is better qualified to be President of the United States than Al Gore.

Gore has been proven right on so many issues, from climate change to the invasion of Iraq.

Next Monday he will draw a crowd of more than 12000 people for a speech in Boise, Idaho !!

If he is ready and willing to seek the Dem nomination, I predict that Gore will lead the field.

Born in 1948, Gore is younger than Kerry, Clark, McCain, Giuliani ... even Hillary!

Unless and until he endorses another candidate, we should assume he is keeping his options open.

In Gore We Trust :-)
