Volunteering Question
I have a friend who is getting out of the corporate ratrace and wants to volunteer her time to helping others.
What would you suggest as the best volunteer group that will be of great help to the needy.
Dont know that it matters, but she lives in Fl. Her first inclination is Red Cross, but I bet you guys can come up with more ideas, and maybe better ones.
Thanks

2. Good for her
Some possibilities:

- volunteer to cook and serve at a homeless shelter.
- Habitat for Humanity, excellent service and also provides outdoor work and exercise.
- VA Hospitals are always looking for volunteers.
- SPCA for animal lovers

3. I'm not a big fan of the ARC.

5. Gotta find one she clicks with
While the cause(s) may be wonderful, human dynamics still apply. She should just volunteer someplace while she fine tunes her need. Maybe she's a brilliant grant writer and doesn't know it. Maybe she can't stand body odor, or druggies, and doesn't know it. Maybe she wants to ensure fresh water to remote villages along the amazon, and doesn't know it. Maybe she is the perfect administrator for a ballet company. Having been the quintessential volunteer for decades, I can say some of the places I helped didn't work for me, and thus I didn't work for them either. She is on a journey. All she can do is start.
