Poll question: Time for yet another unofficial DU '08 straw poll--vote early and often! |
|
Fifth in a series of quick snapshots of DU's current mood, '08 presidential-run-wise. The likely top ten prospective candidates are listed alphabetically, without comment. Don't worry--I won't argue with your choices or dispute your rationales--this isn't one of THOSE polls. Given the current crowded Dem field (and the fact that DU polls only have room for ten options), I'm forced to reserve space for those who have already declared, those who have officially expressed interest in running, and those who, when asked, have not ruled out running. Also, I've omitted Vilsack this time around in favor of the recently announced Dodd.

If these are our only choices for democrats, we're screwed. There is no way that anyone who voted for the war in Iraq should be in the presidential race.

You've still got Clark, Gore, Obama, Kucinich and Richardson. Half the field.

Clark and Kucinich are the only people I could vote for a feel good about.
I don't think Gore has a shot and Obama has no experience(less than 100 weeks in congress and he's never even presented a bill).
And I'm not a troll. I don't post a lot because most of the time I agree with what most people post, I just happen to be in slight objection this time.

And he's a great guy I'm sure...if he's finally figured out where he stands on abortion. Go back and watch some of the interviews he gave in '92 about his stance on abortion. The film "Spin" is a great place to start.
Saving the environment is great and all but it's going to take more then that to save us from everything Bush has fucked up. If Gore is our guy come '08 than so be it, he'll have my vote, but can't we do better?

But I do think he's smart and serious and has his priorities right, and I'd support him if he decided to run (and I'd support any of the above if/when they win the nomination). He was right about Iraq from the get-go, and will do what can be done to slow/stop/reverse global warming, which to me is the mega-issue for our generation, and for the next several generations to come. I don't really give a rat's-ass about abortion this election-cycle; it's pretty much at the bottom of my list of things-to-do, as is flag-burning, gay marriage and prayer in school. I don't think Gore is perfect as a human being, politician or campaigner, and I don't expect him or anyone else to be. And no, I don't think "we" can do better. As far as I know, Superman isn't running. Again.

He doesn't say. Excluding Gore does seem like an odd choice at this point--perhaps Kos is waiting on an official expression of interest from Gore, I don't know.

37. My preference: Gore, Obama, Edwards... |
|
Gore is the perfect combination of 1) who I want to win and 2) who can win.
Obama is a former Con law prof and I would love to see how he interprets Article II. Plus I'd like to see an African-American President.
Edwards is a "mini" Gore to me (see 1 and 2, above).
As for the rest, I either don't want (Clinton), don't know enough about (Dodd, Richardson) or don't think can win (Kucinich).
