What's this "Democrat Party" I keep hearing about... |
|
they sound like awful people.
I mean they're responsible for us loosing Vietnam, along with the Democrat Party sympathizers in the media.
They're responsible for the deficit over the past six years. They're responsible for Iraq not going well.
Glad I'm a member of the Democratic Party. :-)

Grow up, GOP! You act like a bunch of spoiled children fighting over toys in a sandbox.
(Hint: That "Democrat Party" you're dissing is about to hand your toys to you and TELL YOU TO GO HOME!)

5. serious question from a foreigner |
|
I've certainly heard about this problem, but what I haven't understood is the motivation for the misnomer.
What is the reason for the Democratic Party being called the Democrat Party in some quarters? What is the intended effect / hoped-for outcome of doing this? Is it just a stupid childish game, like calling the kid you don't like at school "Debbie" when you know she wants to be called "Deborah" and being called "Debbie" really irks her?
Just wanting to expand my knowledge of the backdrop to the things I see in the world o' US politics! (The thing I find this site quite useful for, btw, so thanks all.)

They want to call us that because they insinuate we are not Democratic, secondly, they also emphasize the "rat" part of Democrat as an insult.
This started a long time ago, and in fact I remember seeing Prescott Bush, George H. W. Bush's father, refer to the Democratic Party as the "Democrat Party".

Debbie can retaliate by calling Eldridge "Ellie", but whaddaya do with Republicans? Call it the Republic Party? Maybe they could be Publicans. An insult in teetotal jurisdictions, perhaps. ;)
I guess all one can do is adopt a pitying look and say "how childish".
Demagoguery is such crap. Sigh; when can we expect those good ideas to start winning the battle in the old marketplace?

13. It's something like you described. Childish, immature schoolyard |
|
stuff. It also removes the -ic suffix, because those people don't want to reinforce our democratic nature.
I know a woman whose first initial is B and her last name starts with Mc. When initialing anything, she uses BMc rather than BM because she doesn't like the association of those initials with a certain bodily function. Everybody is cool with this, except for one exceptionally childish person who knows of her preference but refers to her as BM anyway. I guess she thinks it's funny or something - she's in her 50's by the way, so immaturity is certainly not a function of actual age. :eyes:

Where and when was this? Frankly, I find it hard to believe. If you're not making it up, you should simply send him a message through his web site, explaining why he should avoid using the term.

16. It's a snarky little dig started by Limpballs |
|
and is now almost used exclusively by the Repukes, or GOoPers, as I like to call them.
The Gops think it's cute and Newt made it almost a religion for all Gops everywhere to use Democrat instead of Democratic.
If the new Dem leadership had any guts, everytime a Gop used the term Democrat Party, a Gop staffer would get fired. Everytime a Gop used this term, they would lose one staffer and 100 square feet of office space.
Either they'd stop doing this crap, or they'd end up holding their staff meetings in a broom closet.
Power is only good if you use it.

I heard a guest correct Laura Ingram this am (morning drive...and NOT my usual listening habit)upon her use of the phrase "Democrat Party." Her guest quickly added "ic" as soon as it was uttered in her ever so annoying voice...She promptly corrected herself, albeit in her usual smart-ass tone as if to imply...whatever.:eyes:
Her voice is like nails grating a chalk board. This chick has serious nasal issues...
