Healthcare...and Republicans |
|
I was just reading a thread on a conservative message board (not the Freeper place). I only lurk there. Don't really want to post. Just call it morbid curiosity.
There are a few liberal posters there and I always like to see the Republican's respond to the threads started by anybody not sniffing Bush's jock.
A Canadian poster recently created a thread talking about national healthcare...and how much we in the US pay for uninsured Cancer patients.
Now that wasn't the interesting part. The fascinating thing was the fact that all the righties kept saying how national healthcare could never work. Yet none of them could admit that there are some serious issues for the uninsured and under-insured when the get really ill.
I really wanted to post something in reply...because it just kept echoing through my brain over and over. Why? Because I've heard it from the right...OVER AND OVER.
All I could think to say to them was......
"THE NEO-CON APOLOGISTS DON'T HAVE A PLAN!"
And then I wanted to cut and paste it about a million times just so those idiots could see how it feels.
"THE REPUBLICANS DON'T HAVE A PLAN!!!"

1. There Already is (Limited) National Health Care |
|
National healthcare already works, (when Republicans don't go to yet another effort to kill it)--they call it "Medicare," "the Veterans' Administration," etc.

He has no insurance (like me). His tooth became infected a couple of weeks ago. He went to our General Hospital here. They pulled it for a small fee. He started feeling better almost immediately.
Unfortunately, they didn't get all of the tooth (or something...they said he required a root canal now). Poor guy has become even sicker then he was before. Face swollen up. He's been throwing up. Has a fever. Guys in REAL bad shape.
He goes back to the General Hospital today. He literally had to helped in by his girlfriend. They looked at the area where the tooth used to be. They said he needed a root canal.
They then said, "We need 67$ dollars.".
He said, "I don't have any money.". I can attest, he and his girlfriend live in very modest conditions.
The told him, "Then we cannot help you.". He begged them. They said no.
He asked if there were someway, anyway. And they said, "Yes, pay us the 67$ now...and we'll take care of it.".
So he had to leave. He's literally getting sicker by the hour. He's even considering having a neighbor dig out the roots for him.
Yea....Medicare rocks.
P.S. I don't have insurance...because though my Fiance gets it for 25$ a month...to add me...IS AN EXTRA 400$ a month. And they've warned her...if she actually uses her insurance...they'll raise her premiums.
I'm sick of these "out of sight, out of mind" people. Just because you have health insurance, and it's not difficult for you, doesn't mean that it's not difficult for many of us out here.
As a person that goes to bed at night hoping I don't come down with a serious illness.......
you know what. It doesn't matter anymore. So many of you just don't get it. You have coverage and hear someone else say medicare and just think we're all taken care of.
All I can say to those people anymore....
is go to hell.

I don't recall you asking me if I was on Medicare--I am not. Your post pretended to ask for an answer to Republicans who claim that National healthcare cannot work, so I answered it. Now suddenly, the totally unrelated abuse. What an asshole you are.

7. And your assertion that... |
|
we already have a national healthcare system that works is ludicrous.

2. I just saw a shocking thing on CNN about that. |
|
600,000 dead from cancer every year, 200,000 from cancer that was entirely treatable, (they would have lived) but the healthcare wasn't there. So a 9/11 every week of the people who die because we don't have real healthcare. Its really criminal.

3. The GOP lies and says we have the best health care in the world. |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-18-07 02:54 AM by McCamy Taylor
Dumb ass working class GOPers who will never get health care because they will drop dead from heart attacks from their untreated CAD and emphysema before they qualify for Medicare nod their head in a patriotic frenzy and say "Yeah, we can not tamper with the best health care in the world."
Truth is Americans pay twice per capita what the next most costly country--Switzerland--pays, and our health care indices put us at the bottom of first world nations. We pay too much for crappy health care.

My fiance has VA. It's horrible. They treat her like crap. They give her second rate medication. The cough medicine they gave her for her sinus infection is weaker than Vicks 44. They gave her antibiotics so weak I had to take her back again after 3 weeks for them to give another batch of antibiotics, and I had to go to my doctor after catching the sinus infection. Time and time again I see poor suffering patients lying at the VA hospital with no one paying them any attention. I had to take her overnight to the emergency this past summer for abdominal pain. The doctor on shift said he'd give her a pain shot then disappeared. After 30 minutes of her screaming in pain I went looking for him, found him sitting at a pc doing nothing and had to literally yell to remind him to give her the pain shot.
Maybe Medicare works, but please don't use VA as a system for national healthcare because it's deplorable. The way they treat our vets is outrageous.

8. At the very least, they could offer the same insurance to all Americans that |
|
Congressional members have, based on a sliding fee scale. Those who can't afford insurance won't have a co-pay, those who can afford it would make co-payments accordingly.

9. I'm unemployed and have no insurnace |
|
I'm unemployed, I was a dependent on my SO's insurance and he got canned. I just keep buying my pills and hoping I don't get anything major.
My mom, dad and sister all had cancer. They are all dead now. Mom was treated and survived. Dad and sister both died from cancer. No more preventive care.
This country is a disgrace in the way it treats its people.
