Question for Wes Clark People
I'm talkin him up on another board (non political), all political leanings. Someone there threw in something about 'he played footsie with Saddam'. I don't have time to research this (I'm sure) Repub anti-Clark noise. Could one of you Wes people give me a sentence or two to smack this down?

1. I would just post the picture of Rumsfeld and Saddam shaking hands.

2. Compared to whom? Don Rumsfeld?

It's the other poster's accusation, he or she should be asked to back it up. You can also point out the Bush/Bin Laden family love affair.

4. "Compared to whom" is not the right reply.
Clark has had nothing to do with Saddam, full stop. He was not involved in the Gulf War. He never held the command that includes the middle east. He was never involved in any conflicts or negotiations that involved Iraq or Saddam. The winger you're responding to is simply confused.

But then, that's a given with a winger.

5. Challange the person to prove the point. Talk is cheap
Smears are the cheapest form of talk. Once the person has to make a case to support that bold statement, then it is possible to pick apart the argument. Often at root it is one of those tortured guilt by association things that ends up being; "Clark was a General and the military has done evil things, let me tell you how evil the Pentagon is". In other words it usually isn't really an attack on Clark at all, just an attack on American foreign policy laying the blame for it on the military, which does not control American foreign policy but just follows order to draw up plans for every contengency and exectute the ones that the civilian chain of command wants implemented. The military is often a more convenient target than attacking civilian leadership, including Congress, and it is easier to identify than the special interests that really drive American policy.

I would be more specific except I haven't heard this specific accusation aganist Clark before, which is a good clue as to how paper thin whatever this person is asserting really is. All the most promising attacks on Clark were tried out and used in an attempt to discredit him in 2003 and 2004.

8. Ask them for the proof
of that statement. It can be done politely, you could just say that you had never heard that and ask them to show some article on that accusation.

9. I'm awaiting his link or proof
I'm genuinely curious, though I just know it's bologna. Wes is gold.

And it was hard, but I lived up to my moniker.
