Pentagon's New Manual: OK To Imprison Or Put To Death Tortured Detainees With Heresay Evidence
Pentagon sets rules for detainee trials
By ANNE FLAHERTY, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 37 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has drafted a manual for upcoming detainee trials that would allow suspected terrorists to be convicted on hearsay evidence and coerced testimony and imprisoned or put to death.

According to a copy of the manual obtained by The Associated Press, a terror suspect's defense lawyer cannot reveal classified evidence in the person's defense until the government has a chance to review it.

The manual, sent to Capitol Hill on Thursday and scheduled to be released later by the Pentagon, is intended to track a law passed last fall by Congress restoring President Bush's plans to have special military commissions try terror-war prisoners. Those commissions had been struck down earlier in the year by the Supreme Court.

.........................

As required by law, the manual prohibits statements obtained by torture and "cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment" as prohibited by the Constitution.

However, the law does allow statements obtained through coercive interrogation techniques if obtained before Dec. 30, 2005, and deemed reliable by a judge.

3. This is just WRONG!
Immoral and Unconscionable.

Far BELOW the standard that many of us vets and our beloved ancestors took an oath for --> The Constitution: To serve and defend against all enemies, both foreign and DOMESTIC!

This is NOT the way to treat "enemy combatants" OR "prisoners of war."

We are AMERICANS for Heaven's Sake! Our Country was founded on Freedom, Liberty and Justice. Yes, even for the "least of us" type prisoners who are not full citizens. We are HUMAN BEINGS but these military tribunals are not sound, not justice, and certainly NOT Christian.

And BTW, NEVER FORGET that Dear Leader and his crones in The Executive Branch can name any of us "enemy combatants" AT ANY TIME -- then we will be subjected to the above injustices. How does the foregoing FEEL Citizen?!? :scared:

4. Rummy's legacy.

It had to have been approved and sent to press before Rummy left DoD.

7. The chimp's gas chambers aren't ready yet.
If he could use the option of genocide for his "enemies", whomever they may be at any given moment, I believe he would use that option.

8. I have absolutely no reason to believe
that he doesn't have gas chambers ready.

As for genocide, that seems to be the objective of the "surge."

10. K&R
American fascism

It has it's own unique style and charcteristics. Sometimes difficult to recognize because of its technocratic nature and our predilection to think of fascism solely in terms of brownshirts crashing in your door or some guy in a funny mustache.

11. So, they can torture people right before the trial then execute them based on
the coerced testimony.

That's fair. :eyes:

12. "coerced testimony" = TORTURE
So they will execute people based upon "evidence" obtained through the use of torture.

We Americans should hang our heads in shame.
