Because it lampoons the complete and utterly useless topics that O'Reilly typically has on his show.

51. O'Reilly's really a sensitive guy. It's all an act. |
|
And just what does that make Colbert?
It was very touching. O'Reilly came on the show filled with fear. It was palpable. But Colbert soothed him. He didn't invite him onto the show to shoot him down. I guess you could call it killing with kindness. Maybe just a glance in a mirror for Bill. Ouch, that was ugly. Just a chance to see himself as he really is. And it doesn't happen too often. Thanks Colbert!

66. Why didn't Colbert run over to the table with O'Reilly already seated? |
|
Colbert always takes the applause instead of the guest, with the guest already seated. But tonight O'Reilly was standing and Colbert just walked over to him without the flamboyant trot.
At first I thought Colbert did it out of respect for his great master and he would talk about it, but he didn't. The only reasons I can think of is that Colbert knew this would be a different type of intro with the crowd booing, or else O'Reilly asked before the show that the usual entrance not be done.

73. The Sexual Predator Comment Was Enough 4 Me |
|
I admit, it was a slightly delayed reaction, until I realized what Colbert meant by his comment. Once I "got it," this combined feeling of laughter and disbelief overcame me.
The other highlights for me were the 30% off sticker, and the closing comment...."If you're an act, then what am I?"
Regarding some of the remarks, the segment was just as long as Colbert normally does. He only gives a few minutes, and he rarely discusses books of his guests in depth, so the fact he ignored this one, is not a big deal. I thought it was funny and witty, and at least slightly better than I expected.
But the sexual predator "joke" was priceless, and made the whole interview.
