Help! Can't view You Tube Snips on DU. Browser throws me Off.
Edited on Fri Jan-19-07 12:58 PM by KoKo01
I just got a wireless DSL connection after being on Dial Up. I'm running XP with Netscape 7.1 and every time I click on the "You Tube" video up on DU Front Page My Netscape throws me off and shuts down my browser. My new computer has XP...I had Millenium before and I bought the new computer and got wireless just so I could download the video's without waiting forever.

I've checked out all the help I can find and Netscape is my default browser and I have both Real Audio and Shockwave installed. Hope someone here can help me. :-(

1. I use Firefox

...as my browser and have no problems.

I know it's not an answer to your question, but you may want to look into Firefox....lots of people on DU use it.

Hope your problem is solved quickly.

Cheers

2. if it's a linksys wireless
Edited on Fri Jan-19-07 01:07 PM by nebenaube
you need to upgrade the firmware in the router, that is if you can find one that doesn't leak memory. Every Linksys product I have owned to date from wireless broadband routers to the wireless card in the PC suffers from memory leaks that eventually take the system down.. The video stream is the most severe culprit since there tends to be so much traffic flow with many fragmented packets. It appears the router hits a fragmented packet and decides to allocate a new TCP/IP stack. Hit 30 or 40 fragmented packets and the router hangs. This always happens to me when using realplayer, but google video and you-tube don't cause a problem unless I break the stream before it finishes.

P.S. you'll have more bandwidth if you dump the wireless...

4. I suggest dumping Netscape altogether

Firefox is much less invasive -- you may have to install some add-ons (newest Java, etc) but Firefox will guide you to correct site. PS -- I use Linksys wireless and have no problems w video downloads/viewing

5. Have you named a default media player? That may be the problem. Dunno.
I'm just going by problems I've had in the past and to make the media player work I had to set it as my default player. I think you do that in the Control Panel>add/remove programs>"Set Program access and defaults"

7. I had the same problem
Whenever I tried to play a video my netscape (7.2) would shut down. I looked around for a while and was afraid I would have to start using a new browser, then I found out I had to replace the npswf32.dll file with an updated one.

check out the Netscape community forum at http://community.netscape.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?msg=6299.7&nav=messages&webtag=ws-nscpbrowser

I ran a search on my computer for npswf32.dll and renamed each of them npswf32.bak, then I replaced them with the new npswf32.dll and I haven't had any problems since.

Good luck!
