What is the good news for our side ?
Please forgive me, regular posters, for I have not been here in weeks. I think we all need some good news, if there is any. Does anyone mind summarizing the good news for our side ? I'm not trying to ignore the bad news but more of a Friday cheer up. Thank you for your time.
Steve

1. sorry I can't help you
I have been in a funk since Alito and then today reading how the repukes in Ohio voted against Election Fraud reform. The coup is complete if you ask me.

9. 38%. That is Bush approval. That is great news. Better than at
any time in the last 4 years. We will win the Nov 2006.

26. Don't teach apathy. Like the progressive pundits say - there are so
many kinds of tricks - Dems just have to all go to the polls in numbers (more than 65%) and with resoluteness - that has never been seen before. Then there is no way an election could be stolen. The vote will not even be close.

As Alito takes Supreme Court seat, Ohio GOP guts election protection

Ohio's GOP-controlled legislature has passed a repressive new law that will gut free elections here and is already surfacing elsewhere around the US. The bill will continue the process of installing the GOP as America's permanent ruling party.

Coming with the swearing in of right-wing extremist Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, it marks another dark day for what remains of American democracy.

Called HB3, the law now demands discriminatory voter ID, severely cripples the possibility of statewide recounts and actually ends the process of state-based challenges to federal elections -- most importantly for president -- held within the state.

In other words, the type of legal challenge mounted to the theft of Ohio's electoral votes in the 2004 election will now be all but impossible in the future.

Section 35-05.18 of HB3 requires restrictive identification requirements for anyone trying to vote in an Ohio election. Photo ID, a utility bill, a bank statement, a government check or other government document showing the name and current address of the voter will be required.

Edited on Fri Feb-03-06 03:56 PM by FLDem5
after a vote in which there were more votes and voters.

heh heh.

And his name is Boehner which makes for a lot of really funny puns.
And I heard THREE talking heads on my teevee yesterday discussing how Boehner was caught handing out lobbyist checks on the FLOOR OF THE HOUSE.

Heh heh.

TERRY MCAULIFFE, FORMER DNC CHAIRMAN: I think this doesn't help them politically. This is more of the same. Contrary to what Rich is saying, he is very close to DeLay, he's one of the biggest contributors to his legal defense fund. John Boehner very close to the K Street lobbyists, has his own group of K Street lobbyists whom he meets with on a continued basis to tell him how to run the House.

Very tied to the special interests, so I don't think it's good for the Republicans and this is the guy, if you remember, was walking around the United States House of Representatives floor, handing out checks from his pocket from the tobacco companies. And that's not what the Republicans need right now in this culture of corruption. They should have changed. They didn't change.

Found the Matthews transcript:
GERGEN: So they wanted to get away from it, but they didn‘t go all the way to a reformer. John Boehner, they got another Republican, a Newt Gingrich ally. Boehner really did well during the Newt Gingrich years, he fell from grace and now he‘s back.

He‘s well-liked on Capitol Hill. He also has a reputation of being a little too close to the lobbyists, even though he was against earmarks, he is the guy who—he‘s apologized for it now, but he‘s the guy who was giving out tobacco checks at one point in the 1990s on the floor of the House of Representatives.

MATTHEWS: Wow.

20. A Dem won by a big margin in a small Virginia election tuesday.
The state senate seat had been vacated by a Republican who had been appointed to Asst AG.

The Dem won with around 63% of the vote with one suburban precinct giving him 85% of their vote.

...yet.

Looking at what I wrote - WOW that's negative, so let me add to it.

The good news is that once Americans have seen their pensions emptied, their health care taken away, they currency devalued, their future squandered on military pork, their education system dumbed down and their livelihoods sold off to the Chinese in the form of a crippling debt, they may EVENTUALLY stand up and fight to take this country back.

That is assuming that Rummy's planned robot army isn't ready to mow us all down by then...

(geez, I'm getting really bad at "positive" lately)
