Perry, 52, was shot and hit with a hatchet in a hate crime at a gay bar. There's a nationwide manhunt for the teenage suspect. Perry was one of three people attacked Wednesday night while simply watching a game of pool. The suspect, Perry said, never uttered a word. Then, Perry felt the sharp pain of a hatchet.

"I came so close to being completely paralyzed or being dead," he said.

The attack left Perry with a hatchet scar on his face. A bullet shot through and out his back, just missing his spine. Only days after the attack at Puzzles, he's alive to tell the story.

"And when I turned around, there was this hatchet coming right for my face and it just came right into my face on the right side," said Perry. "And within -- I would say, no more than five seconds -- I heard a gunshot. I felt a sensation in my back. I smelled the gun powder, and I'm like, 'I think I've been hit.'"

The suspect was Jacob Robida, 18, who police say targeted the gay bar.

6. just saw an interview of this man on news

he's a paramedic, and is going back to work Monday. His courage, in talking to the reporters, and what he said was inspiring.

In regards to the nature of his attack he said "I don't know anything about hate"

What an incredibly strong person, and such a contrast to the twisted sick guy who attacked him.

Hate crimes against GLBT's didn't begin with bush*, but they have been increasing since he was installed into the WH in 2001. As a matter of fact, there has been an increase in hate crimes against racial minorities as well. This isn't directed at the OP, but I can't stand that they keep referring to this man as "a teen". While technically that is true, it makes him sound like some stupid kid who got caught stuffing firecrackers into mailboxes. This was A MAN, an ADULT who was so filled with hate that he attempted to kill strangers simply because of their sexual orientation.
