Oh *&^%*!
7 a.m. Sunday morning and they're already hyping the Super Bowl. In the meantime DU, a potential diversion from the Super Bowl in what is clearly a sexist and anti-woman move, is going to be shut down for repairs, updates, add-ons, whatevers by Skinner, Elad, and EarlG.

Depressing.

2. Yeah.
And the nearest one is at least 20 hours drive time away, not to mention the fact that this IS winter... :eyes: (sigh) Depressing.

5. Welll...
If you went, you'd have your choice about where you hang out and there would be no parking problem!
On the other hand, it might be a real good time to go visit some of the blogs that we keep hearing about but rarely have the time to visit. (Spending too much time on DU?) Just doing a quick search on democrat or progressive brings up a wealth of interesting leads.

I certainly have no intention to watch any diddly-dum football game.

4. That would work for me.
;)

Why do I suspect that the plans include the Super Bowl, a Super Bowl party, and occasionally during commercials updating DU?

6. I don't like football
Isn't it sexist to assume the Super Bowl is just for men?

7. When I saw that announcement
I thought back to the last 3 years a realized that DU was the only thing that kept me sane during the Stupor Bowl (a great name I just saw here earlier). Ah well, it isn't like there are not plenty of other things to do but damn!

8. Agreed. Bad timing for repairs.
I saw a contest somewhere to win front seat tickets for the Rolling Stones at the Super Bowl. I really wanted to win, but figured there was no way in hell I could sit through the boring football game so I didn't bother entering.

10. Updating DU during SB
is clearly a sexist and anti-woman move? lots of women love Football.

Though I think it's a poor time to do an update also, why is everything boiled down to a ideologue motive?

Whatever time they pick, someone will be unhappy.

12. I love Super Bowl Sunday.
It is the best day of the year to do dinner and a movie. Fortunately my husband doesn't care for football either, but before I met him I went out all by myself. Find a nice enough restaurant that they are not showing the game.

13. You can please all the people some of the time,
you can please some of the people all of the time,
but you can't please all of the people all of the time.

(Sorry, Abe.)

Systems upgrades are not something done on the spur of the moment. It takes a ton of scheduling coordination between organizations to get all the right people available at the right time. This may have been an open time-slot for all the folks needed to do the work. . .

17. I cannot not tell you how much I detest football. I will watch
an occasional Bears game, but that's only when I have to be in the same room. With me, I believe it's just psychological. :) When I was growing up, we had ONE TV and my dad and 3 brothers watched football 24/7 or any other freakin' sport that was on. My sister and I were shit out of luck if there was something we really wanted to see on the tube....football ruled in the house.:puke: Pissed me off and it still pisses me off that football trumps everything else on Sundays.:grr: EVERYTHING is STILL scheduled around freakin' football. Want to go to a movie?...AFTER the football game. Want to go out for lunch? AFTER the football game. Want to do anything on Sunday? ONLY IF there's no football game on. It's ridiculous. The ONLY thing different now is... we have more than one TV. My husband will go downstairs to watch it. I hate just having it on in the room. My first husband didn't really like football so I never allowed it on in the house.:) If one of my brothers would come over and try to watch a game while visiting (at Thanksgiving), I wouldn't let him watch it. SWEET JUSTICE! I know this anger stems from my suppressed TV viewing as a child. :7

I will miss DU today, but I understand their need to do the fixes.

20. Do what I'm doing--domestic work and other unfinished
projects.

Spring's around the corner, incognito! I'm going to touch up a paint job, clean the house, refill the bird feeders, and all kinds of other things.

Carpe diem and all that!

21. : ) That's my game plan.
I do have other things to do today. I just like to bitch about football. I NEVER pass up a chance to give my 2 cents on the matter. Now, how many innings are in a football game?

18. Two Funny Anti-Football Articles !!
Edited on Sun Feb-05-06 10:38 AM by astroBspacedog
We have a wonderful weekly newspaper here in Idaho called The Boise Weekly, My favorite section is a column written by a local ( Boisein), Bill Cope. He usually comments on politics, but not always. A couple of weeks back he wrote a "tongue and cheek" article suggesting that BSU should drop it's football program. Then after a radio interview with a "pit bull sports writer" he changed his mind. --- He decided he was serious after all.
