So Bush wants to cut the death benefit to save $3 billion over ten years.
He should have invaded Iraq 3 weeks later to save that 3 billion.

A whoppin 255.00 to help cover funeral expenses, they should raise it not eliminate it.

6. SS Beneficiaries
He's taking money away from poor widows. Compassionate Conservatism in it's truest form. It's no wonder they are making such a stink about the funeral - it diverts peoples attention.

7. The death benefit
This is the HUGE sum of $255.00 (survivor's benefits)that people are entitled to when they kick the bucket. It was originally intended to help with "burial expenses." We all know how far this extravagant and wasteful sum can go. The sum itself is a joke...and the fact that Bush wants to actually eliminate such a paltry sum tells us all we need to know about his compassionate nature. The man is a lunatic.

9. Holy SH*T! WHY?
That $255 has been the same amount since I was a little girl, and I'm 62 now! Hell, most of the comments I've ever heard about it were to increase it, because it was initially designed to cover funeral expenses. Other than being buried in your back yard, under a tree, like your dog, that amt. doesn't even make a inor dent in a funeral expense today! I'm not even sure you could get the hold dug for $255!

I had matching galvanized trash cans picked out for my parents. Now I'll have to do it up cheap.

11. What Part Of "Promise" Do These Morons Not Understand?
Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 11:35 AM by ProfessorGAC
The funds were deducted from paychecks under the promise that the money would be there should the need arise. Survivor benefits were part of that promise. Now, we can break these pledges and chalk it up to "good government". They ARE BREAKING A PROMISE between the citizens and the government, which belongs to those same citizens.
