The Bogus Fat/Heart Disease Study
I am not sure why the media is pushing this bogus study, but for the last two day the media has been pimping a study that claims that eating a low fat diet cannot prevent sickness such as heart disease and breast cancer.

There are at least two things that are wrong with this study. The women in the study for from the ages of 50-79 years of age. Some people outside of the media have stated that the results of this study may actually show that waiting until you are 50 or 60 to start eating right will not prevent you from getting heart disease. These people have said that eating right for 10 years after a lifetime of poor eating habits will not help you. The second thing wrong with this study is that it was started 10 years ago before new research proved that it is not just getting rid of all fats that prevents heart disease, but getting rid of saturated fats like those in fried foods.

4. I think the worst issue is that so few people really have any clue...
...about what constitutes "good nutrition." If they did, most manufactured foods would have no market and Americans wouldn't receive most of their information about nutritional choices from the marketing divisions of companies like General Mills. How many Americans even know what a fat is, or a carbohydrate, and so on? How many know what roles fats play in human metabolism? How many know how many gaps there are in our understanding of human nutrition?

Most Americans have absolutely no way to make informed choices about their diets-- REALLY informed choices, not simply choices governed by advertisers and publishing houses intent on finding the next big diet score. I think that's utterly appalling.

8. Americans are hooked on cheap carbs processed by huge corporations
As long as Kraft, Nabisco, Nestle, Beatrice Foods, etc., keep pushing their junk food on unsuspecting people, people will die from what they are eating.

Granola bars are considered health food but it's full of sugar and crappy white, processed flour. It's just like American bread, too, where you barely have to chew it, even if they say 14 grain. Mushy canned veggies devoid of any nutrients and full of metallic deposits and chemical preservatives. Meat with so much red dye it hurts the eyes. GM corn products. Popcorn bags leaching toxic chemicals into the food. Frozen dinners made with mechanically separated meats. Cow's milk for kids, full of bovine hormones. Orange juice, which will jack up blood sugar as good as any candy bar.

Basically, if you see it advertised on TV, Don't touch it! It's evil!!!!

Eat what you want, but not too much of it. If you want a hamburger or ice cream every now and then, eat them. I truly believe as long as one's diet is balanced and not extreme in any way they'll be fine. Throwing in regular exercise helps too.

This study doesn't surprise me much; a lot of the dietary guidelines we've been give over the past 20 years or so were done for marketing purposes anyway.
