1. Congress IS owned by the people that use it...
Lobbyists and Corporations...

All kidding aside, these are the things Thom Hartmann refers to as "The Commons," and suggests that we've lost sight of what the founding fathers intended to be and remain as part of The Commons.

7. "owned" as in "controlled" by those who might need it -
which is all of us.

"controlled" as in deciding on the regulations that govern the infrastructure/services - by means of (true) democracy (as it is supposed to be).

To suggest that ownership would mean that the sick literally "own" hospitals is to make a mockery of the issue.

5. totally true
Listen to Ralph Nader. I know he is despised by many here, but most of what he has to say is correct. We, the people, own the airwaves. We the people own, or at least have paid for, most of the infrastructure that allows commerce to flow. We the people, own, collectivly, the resources like oil and minerals underground. We the people, own the forests and the parks and everything else the Republicans are trying to give away to their cronies for profit. There will come a time when money, a make believe form of exchange of goods and services, will not pay for the damage to the planet that we all share. Money, to have value, depends on the existance of the government that issues it. The planet, does not care what currency you use. When you can no longer breath the air, fish the oceans, or fend off hurricanes, your currency might as well be Ducats. The space ship we are on won't accept them. It will mearly react to our incursion like another disease, to be eliminated. Our planet will continue to evolve, with us, or without us. It dosn't care. We should care.
