Cheney's in charge of classifying documents, Libby's story is meaningless |
|
If Libby testified that Cheney authorized him to disclose classified information, they've got that angle covered. All Cheney has to do is say he declassified the information before releasing it.
Libby's alibi is a little to convenient IMHO.

1. Cheney doesn't have that authority |
|
He can't declassify information. At least that's what a lot of CIA experts have said on the news in the last 2 days.

That authority is only in the hands of the Director of the CIA and (maybe) the President.

The VP doesn't have that authority. Of course, it doesn't change anything in Libby's case, as that is not what he is charged with.

6. Does not really help when the charge is perjury |
|
At best it's why they did not indict him for for the leak. It is not a defense for providing false testimony.

Fiyzgerald noted that Mr. Libby testified about -- which VP Cheney authorized him to release to journalists, although it was classified -- was not about Plame. It was an NIE.
