for discussion. It might be interesting to consider how different groups around the world view the USA. That discussion might include European countries, the Asian nations, the Arab world, Canada, Mexico, and others.

and the new US foreign policy. But most don't know half of how bad things are in the US. The endless budget cuts for social services, and endless tax cuts for the rich don't make the news here. For instance Abramoff made the news, the Plame thing got some attention, Katrina did, but not the Downingstreet memos. Most of the youth here isn't very interested in anything else but partying.

He has never seen the hatred for Americans he sees now. I said to him, "Most of these folks hate our government, but not the people." He instantly corrected me & said, "It's different now."
Go figure.

who left the US after being released for a false conviction that resulted in 20 years of his life being spent behind bars, travels the world regularly with people like Nelson Mandela. He also says that the hostility towards the USA is at a level that is almost impossible to appreciate within the USA.
One of the things that I believe is worth considering, in an objective manner, is how the Muslim world views the US. Clearly, we could all agree that most in the Middle East would view the segment of America represented by Halliburton/Cheney/Texas oil as being interested primarily in accessing their primary resource -- oil -- while the "christian" segment as represented by Bush/Falwell/Robertson are motivated by a religious crusade that pits the Cross against the Crecent.
But how about the democrats, and the democratic left? The majority of the mainstream democrats might be viewed as at very best weak, and more likely as silent partners in the Cheney-Bush attacks on the Middle East's Islamic people. And what of the democratic left? Would it not seem frustrating for the Muslim people to see that, for an obvious example, a majority of the people on DU appear to think that everything done by Islamic people to fight the Cheney-Bush threat to their sovereignty is considered a "CIA plot"? From 9-11 to the bombings in Italy and England, and even a post yesterday that hinted the Carroll woman's kidnapping was some silly plot ..... I do not mean that I agree in any way with their tactics -- I absolutely do not -- but I recognize that they are human beings, from a very different culture than am I, with different ways of viewing the world, but that one thing they have in common with anyone, anywhere, is the desire to be listened to.
