5. No one can agree on the facts
Pat Roberts has one set of facts, and Daschle has another set of facts.

Roberts says FISA incapable of dealing with new technology and surveilace requirements, Dem Congresswoman says no its perfectly capable and was amended to deal specifically with the new requirements.

When Russert pointed out that Cheney said we can't trust Congress to not talk? She said that's funny considering Cheney's chief of staff has been arrested and the administration is being investigated.

46. Oh that reminds me of ANOTHER HUGE POINT...
They described the time after September 11 where Bush wrote Congress that he wanted power WITHIN THE UNITED STATES to do whatever he wanted to do, making this country a de-facto dictatorial fascist regime. Daschle rejected the WH's assertions and rejected the WH's new wording. It was RIGHT AROUND THIS TIME that Daschle received a nice little Anthrax package in the mail.

Coincidence??

14. Important point...
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 11:21 AM by Dr. Jones
This is CRITICAL and should be researched.

Bush claims FISA is from 1978 and is therefore old and obsolete. However, one of the panel members (a Democrat from CA, forget her name!) said amendments to FISA have indeed been made after 9/11, including extending the time limitation to go to the courts from 24 hours to 72 hours. I think she said that FISA was also amended 8 times in the Patriot Act.

Bush's assertion therefore is FALSE and HYPED, just like everything else that man says. He claims it's an old law and it doesn't have much value in 2006, yet HE IS THE ONE who forced several amendments of it since 9/11!!

Do I smell IMPEACHMENT??

31. The force resolution gave him the power to use military force against..
....another country. The short and soundbitable answer is that the notion a measure to allow Bush to use military force against another country somehow authorized him to wiretap domestically and bypass FISA, is an absurdity.

That's what people have to begin to ask. Now how hard is it to believe that wiretapping of reporters calling from the Middle East to their collegues here in the U.S. ocurred? And that this conveniently leads to governmental control over our ostensibly Free Press?

71. Do these Democrats disagree at all with the Repugs on anything???
Seriously, I'm getting tired of this shit. This is how it works: Russert asks the main questions to the Republicans (Roberts, Hoekstra). These two spend a long time making huge statements, pontificating with all sorts of demagoguery and fear mongering.

Once they are done with their rants, then Russert asks the Dems if they "agree with their statements."

Then Daschle and Harman repeat profusely how much they agree with the statements made by the Republicans, and then meekly point some technical disagreements.

They look AWFUL. They look UNCONVINCING. They basically SURRENDER their debate positions to the Republicans even before they stat talking. This is awful!

82. I don't agree with you. I believe that Daschle and Harmon did a pretty
good job of standing up for the laws of the land. Russert read an awesome statement from Daschle about how he wouldn't allow domestic wiretapping when * asked for approval. Harmon and Daschle said the Gang of 8 never got the truth about the full extent of what kind of surveillance was being conducted. The Pukes looked like lying fools.

85. Right on! -- It was embarrassing!
I just couldn't take this shit. Two cardboard cutouts of Daschle and Harman could have put a better fight on this "round table."

This was literally EMBARRASSING!!!!

Does Russert job consists exclusively of confronting Republican bullies to Democratic wimps? Does he actually look for particularly meek Democrats?

It feels like all political debate in TV replicates the pattern of "Hannity & Colmes."

:puke:

interrupts and gets all huffy! Typical guilty response! Then filibusters and tries to excuse his entire behavior for everything everywhere! Kaboom!
