This 24 hours of silence thing bothers me.
from msnbc

....snip..

Information was delayed
It was not reported publicly by the vice president’s office for nearly 24 hours, and then only after the incident was reported locally by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.

This bunch of losers in the WH now have a history of covering things up. Bu$h, Pickles and Daddy Warbucks just simply don't like to put it out there.

Makes you wonder that if the local press didn't make the story whether Cheney and crew would have ever said anything.

Makes me wonder what else they're not telling us about the incident.
24 hours is plenty of time to create spin.

12. Good point, 1620
The Republican Cabal of Cronies wants to know EVERYTHING about our business, while all of their "business" using our tax money is "TOP secret Classified."

SCREW THAT

3. They had to get their stories coordinated before it hit the
news. One does wonder if, had the guy died, whether we'd have ever heard about what happened.

16. Agree
they wanted to wait until the alcohol was out of Cheney's system in case the police made a fuss.

unintentional or otherwise.

18. My idea, as well--see below, but
basically, I think this is a guy who never claimed he quit drinking. No one has been thinking about that aspect of Dead-Eye Dick.

26. I think that may be the answer
It hits the news hours after the Sunday talk shows. It would have taken over from the latest talking point and the Republicans are all about controlling the message. It doesn't matter that delaying announcing this makes it look like a conspiracy.

I wondered about that too, whether they would have disappeared that little 'accident' if they could have.

What got me was that Cheney routinely travels with a paramedic team and always has an ambulance on call. Jesus H....

13. interesting that the victims condition changed from
"just a flesh wound" when i first read it, to "transported by helicopter to the ICU, in undisclosed condition" most recently.

i'm thinking cheney tripped and blasted him accidentally or just got tired of waiting for absolute power and just started shooting people who pissed him off.

15. Did Ch*ney have too much to drink on his hunting trip?
I have this hunch that dude has been using these "hunting" trips as an excuse to get rip-roaring drunk. He has a history, but we have been busy looking at the Shrubbery for signs of chemical dependency rather than at this guy.

... I'm sure he was plastered. You'd be amazed at how many guys go around shooting with a flask in their pocket. Used to know bunches of guys who did it, and was one reason I quit hunting altogether. They're a danger . . . and they're assholes.

17. It bothers me too. In fact, I posted about it on my blog today.
It really makes you wonder: did the Bush Crime Team delay the release of this story, so they could figure out how to spin it?

Or did the media sit on their asses, like the NYT sat on the domestic spy story for a year?

22. I don't buy 95% of the conspiracies storys
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 10:32 PM by Freedom_Aflaim
That float around, but I really do find this one suspicious.

For this to NOT get out within a few hours, required a concerted effort on the part of the White house.

In ANY shooting theres alot of people involved, law enforcement, nurses, doctors and reporters.

In any presidential visit, there are alot of people involved also, law enforcement, local hospital put on alert, and of course the press. Put these two situations together and its inconceivable it took 24 hours for the world to find out.

Let talk about reporters..even in the most crime ridden area, the local press will at least do a cursory look at any shooting when he learns about it through their normal channels (i.e. police scanners, hosital law enforcement)..

If I were to get a pistol and shoot myself in the foot right now and call 911, I guarantee that the local press will at least make a couple basic inquiries to see if there is a story.

And here we have a shooting at a manor where the VP is visiting?...No way would the press not find out unless there was a VERY ACTIVE effort was made to suppress it.

My guess it was alcohol was involved.

25. Alcohol, why else let 24 hrs. go by before an announcement
And this bit about this fella being "peppered" but he is in ICU? Maybe a heart attack, if not, a face full of bird shot. Also, Cheney didn't go see the guy until today, now that's a real friend. This story has alcohol written all over it. Another thing, Wittingham (?) was behind them retrieving a bird and dufus swings completely around and shoots. He must have forgotten his huntin' buddy was wandering around somewhere.

27. Agree on most counts except the ICU part
This guy is an old man, doesnt take much to put a 78 year old into the ICU.

Really they make it sound so benign.."peppered". While it could be worse (i.e. buckshot), getting a face full of birdshot at 90ft is going to put anyone into the ER or worse. Im sure most all those pellets broke the skin and required removal (ouch!)

23. Marvin
When Marvin Bush's maid was killed a few years ago (the family SUV accidentally rolled over her in the driveway of the Bush's suburban Virginia home), the story was quashed for over a week, when it was finally mentioned in a short blurb at the back of the Washington Post. BTW, Marvin is Dubya's not well known younger brother, who was in charge of the company providing security for the WTC on 9/11, and was also (at the same time) an officer of the company that represented the WTC's owners.
