It's not Global Warming
This past weekend we had the biggest blizzard in New York since they kept records. This followed the warmest January on record.
It is important for any scientist or weather expert to NOT suggest that Global Warming has any thing to do with this. It can only be suggested that a vague study can be done to "look into it".
Thank you,
The White House

1. At 1am Sunday morning, that storm
had developed an eye like a hurricane! No, there's no such thing as global warming! We live in Minneapolis, and my sister lives near Washington DC. Two years in a row Virginia has had MORE SNOW than Minnesota!

The mid 1800s.
So it's about 150 years.

8. Nope. Just wondering how a single storm can be
proof of global warming.

BTW...I'm a climate scientist. (PhD Candidate in Oceanography, ODU, Norfolk, VA)

10. Not a single storm.
But maybe the biggest blizzard in 150 years which followed the warmest January ever recorded, which followed the most active hurricane season ever recorded, which followed the warmest decade ever recorded. Maybe, just maybe, when put in context, it has some significance.
Read my original post and notice that I mentioned the first two events together.
You should also notice that my post was really about the spin this White House gives to every bit of scientific fact to support their agenda.
The little "sarcasm" icon should have clued you in.

9. Current Warming Period Is Longest in 1,200 Years, Study Says

Colorado is experiencing, for the second straight year, the warmest January on record.

The running joke around my house is “NO! There’s no such thing as global warming!”

11. A small suggestion...
I never did like the term "Global Warming" as I have heard many a dimwit make comments about how cold it was getting in his part of the world and dismissing the idea altogether. I prefer to use the term "Global Climate Change" Though both terms are in fact true - Atmospheric temperatures are indeed rising - the term Global Climate Change provides the message of the impact of the phenomenon of Global Warming. Thats my two bits. Thanks, you may now return to your regularly scheduled discussion.

12. How far do you have to “dumb” something down
in order to make sure it gets the attention it needs? At what point does it become the responsibility of the reader to research the subject at hand to a depth necessary to not be mislead by its common usage?

I am reminded of SUV owners who believe that because they have four-wheel-drive and they can accelerate faster they can also stop faster? Or that Gravity is not a force but the curvature of space-time? Or that if you immerse an electrical appliance into a bathtub while you are in it you will get electrocuted?

I’m sorry, but it is the…coddling…for lack of a better word, of those who for whatever reason do not wish to learn something that has contributed to the sorry state our country is in right now.

The underlying principles behind how everything works cannot be reduced to a thirty-second sound bite and How The World Works for Dummies.
