FWIW, I'm really PROUD OF my fellow DUer's today!!!
This whole Cheney hunting accident IS IMPORTANT. YES, THERE IS MUCH GOING ON RIGHT NOW, but this is an important story as well. This accident shows that CHENEY lacks the fortitude, courage and respect for the law that EVEN AN AVERAGE CITIZEN would demonstrate.

Some people here have said hunting accidents happen all the time, and this is true. BUT THAT IS MISSING THE SIGNIFICANCE of the STORY, which MOST DUers have picked up on today:

Cheney can't handle an accident in a positive way, showing leadership and cooperation with the law, why is he our V.P.?!?!

It shows that he should not be in the position he is and that he is an OUTRIGHT COWARD (see http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=405789&mesg_id=405789)

Frankly, I'm proud DU has followed through on this story and done the due-diligence a story like this merits.

2. Cheney (and bush) never accept any responsibility for their........
actions, destructive or otherwise. He (they) always blame anybody else for their screw ups.

3. OMG this is HUGH!!!!!!111111!!!!!
well, it's important anyway.

I agree that it's an incident that reveals a great deal about the character of our Vice President. Not only does he think he's above the law, but he thinks that shooting at farm-raised birds is "hunting."

4. It is a major story
How many VP of the USA have shot a man? (Aaron Burr, maybe one or two others way, way back but not when in office). Also, why wasn't this made public? and why did it take an anonymous tip to a local paper to make it public knowledge?

5. I'm with you. This is more than just a hunting accident.
It's about Cheney's character, a cover up and God knows what else. We have been discussing the other matters for months and months. Cheney, the evil bastard, deserves a few days in the heat.

a window into how this admin handles everything. Suppress the truth at all costs, foment a plausible (even if) ridiculous cover story, CYA at all times, blame the victim. Rinse and repeat.

11. That is exactly right
Another example of how little they care about anyone but themselves. I guess shooting themselves in the foot was getting boring, huh?

7. it's negligence not an accident
when you shoot a gun it is your responsibility to know where the shot is going. For him to partake in the cover-up and blame shifting instead of taking responsibility for his error is just more proof of his lack of ethics and morals.

8. I agree it's negligence...
and negligence leads to accidents... I don't know what else to call it...

Cover-up and blame-shifting about an accident however, is criminal.

The media really have their collective panties in a knot over this.... I love it. This ain't going away... just add it on the pile of disgrace... I think the reason Fitz is taking so long IS he has Cheney in his crosshairs.

This story doesn't hurt a bit! And I'm sure the Chimp is quite pissed, behind-the-scenes.
