Um...stop telling people to stop talking about Cheney
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 06:29 PM by WilliamPitt
This ---> <--- will hide any threads you don't want to see.

It is a fascinating story, funny and deranged and wierd. The Vice President of the United States of America shot a guy in the face. Something like this hasn't happened since Aaron Burr buried Alexander Hamilton two hundred years ago. Cap it with the fact that they hid the story for a day, and the fact that Cheney went hunting with a whole team of medical professionals, and we are into the land of serious WTF.

<--- Use it, love it, be it.

Even though nothing is likely to come of this, there's no harm in discussing it to our heart's content. The guy is a MORON, among other things, and I enjoy reading anything which conveys that reality to as many people as possible.

33. I see eyes like that all the time.
Of course, they're usually in the dark, either crossing the road or crouching down in the weeds next to the road before blinking and disappearing completely. Sometimes a cat, sometimes a possum, a couple of times something much bigger and unidentified...

38. Grew up with hunters, most of my family hunts small and large game.
This only proves he's a total moron that can't handle a small shotgun. Had this been a 12 gauge, the guy would be dead. So, no this really doesn't show Cheney in any light but 'moran red'. Actually talk around here (south Texas) is how no one can believe they sat on the story for 24hrs (wanted to see if the guy would die I guess). Makes Cheney not only look like a fool, but out of control.

90. Any ideas "how" they sat on the story for a whole day.
I live in FL and here the hospitals report gunshot wounds. How does this not appear in Sunday morning's local paper? I am seriously wondering how they did this. Did the Secret Service interfere with the cops or did the cops just fail to file a report or what. This is a little different than burrying dubya's drunk driving deal. This is a shooting. What the heck is going on?

39. I'm from middle America.
This is not something that would play well with my family. He apparently doesn't know what hunter safety is. A lot of people back home would toss him off the property for fear of their livestock.

"Real" guys know better than to shoot other members of the hunting party.

Look at objectively. I challenge all you people who are saying "Stop It!" to seriously say this to yourself and then think about it objectively: "The VP shot a guy in the face w/ a shotgun."

Seriously, say it again. "The VP shot a guy in the face w/ a shotgun."

Can you truly, sincerely tell me that that is not one of the most fucking bizarre things you've ever fucking heard? Seriously. You'd get laughed out of Hollywood if you presented it in a script.

How can he not be negligent - he f-ing shot the guy in the head. Aren't Quails in the air??

It is a weird story, deserves to be discussed.

41. Cheney ran out of a meeting today and wouldn't talk about it
When was the last time he didn't just stand there and completely BS his way through something? But today he simply ran away like a frightened little child.

Sometimes it's the stupid little things that bring down the mighty. Cheney comes off looking in this episode at best like an incompetent fool. At worst, he makes you wonder if there wasn't something more sinister going on by his actions. Either way, he looks bad, bad, bad. And he's not exactly well-liked anyway.

"Bring it on," is all I have to say. Gimme more Adventures of Hairtrigger Dick.

43. Who cares what Cheney says when
we're having such a good laugh. "Be vewy vewy quiet, we're hunting I-wackies." This is sooooooooooooooooo funny.
"I'm very thankful Whittington is doing fine," said commentator Michelle Malkin. "Unfortunately, this is very bad news for the White House - and not just because of the inevitable late-night jokes that will inundate the airwaves over the next week. The Dems will exploit this accident to smear Cheney as incapable of being trusted, weak of mind, etc. The resignation rumors will fly again. And the biography of a man who has served this country so well and so honorably for so many years will be overshadowed by a single, ill-fated hunting mishap."

It's not often we get this sort of happening. I don't even remember the last time a politician shot someone. All the other things will be talked about around here also, but right now it is time to talk about this.

A large majority of Americans don't see the deeper issues, but throw shooting people in the mix and they will listen. That leaves it wide open then.

The story has legs, the spinning is failing, and it just keeps getting worse and worse. 68. Sure thing, Will, Let's keep beating this dead horse. It is not as though
it has been skewered, laughed at, pseudo-analysed, and repeated ad nauseam. Sure, Will, let's not focus on what nefarious deeds the congress-critters are performing or all the other real news. Let's just keep getting our less and less jolly jollies over this non-incident that is not going to result in anything significant.

This shooting deserved about fifteen minutes of yucks -- not fifteen thousand threads.

Oh, and yeah, I've been hiding this garbage for hours. Consider this reply my homage to your stature here and elsewhere.

69. We need to laugh. It feels damn good.
This administration has been driving us to despair and depression since November of 2000. IMHO, if this is what it takes for us to have some jollies, so be it.

Nobody deserves to be jeered at more than Dick Cheney. I love it. If it takes this shooting to get ALL of America to pay attention to what an asshole he is, then I love it even more.

:hi:

Oops. Bring him to the Iraqi patch factory in Balad where Americans fix Iraqis with problems caused by war.

71. Lots of bubba boys can relate to how stupid he was
They know better than to start shooting when you don't know where your partners are.

Trying to make it the other guy's fault - well, let's just see how that plays out. Anybody that has ever hunted on any regular basis knows it's always the shooter's responsibility.

74. "land of serious WTF" LMAO!
I have enjoyed every minute of this story...

Here we have an admin that I have always said cannot find it's way out of a bag, all the while bragging about how they are protecting us from *terra* (ie *them*)

Yet this stupid troll like, fat fucker, shoots a hunting companion in the face (while hunting very benign tame birds--how manly) as a jerk patron (impromtou Cheney office spokesperson) watches from her SUV.

This is a freaking Seinfeld episode!

I will NEVER shut up about this...

To those that are sick of this story--you just haven't fallen completely down that rabbit hole yet because this incident pretty much typifies the whole reign of this bush admin IMO

76. It's a character issue.
It shows the knee-jerk reaction to attempt to cover-up everything. Everything. At best for the republican side, Cheney hoped his friend would be treated and released, and that no one would find out. On the other hand, he may have been with a group of people doing the "Bloody Mary" hunting scene. If a person waits 24 hours to report an auto accident, it is always because they were intoxicated or were in posession of some substance. Dick has some DWIs.

Older DUers will recall LBJ's weird hunting tactics, with the challenge to the "manhood" of Hubert Humphrey. People considered it a character flaw, along with his "bring back that coonskin!" remark, and to a lesser degree, the lifting the beagle by its ears, and showing his scar. At least LBJ didn't shoot his friends.

Cheney's people are being nailed for trying to blame others -- namely, the victim. Fact is, if you don't know what your target is, don't shoot. This afternoon, the people at Fox tried to do a studio re-enactment of the incident. It was pathetic. It made clear how wrong Cheney was. Since then, they have said the sun was in his eyes. Don't shoot if you can't see.

Fox also advocated Dick make jokes about the incident. Please do. Nothing will play worse than Cheney making jokes about shooting his friend. Collateral damage?

This is a character issue. While some might prefer we stick to other issues, this is the language Americans speak today.

85. Absolutely! And we have been trying for a long time to illustrate
the unsavory character of one Dick Cheney. If this is the proof the nation needs to pop open collective eyes, we'll take it. After this colorful proof of the man's cowardice, more will likely listen to other bits of Cheney history.

They just can't wish this one away and keep pretending he's a fine, upstanding human being. This strips him bare ass-ed and buck naked. He is a fraud and now more will understand that fact.

83. Really, what is the deal with that?
It seems like whenever one story dominates DU for awhile, someone has to get their undergarments in a knot about it. Or start telling us to be nice and rise above making fun of those who are destroying our country (this is the "we're just Nicer!!" theory of being a Liberal). Then posts show up in the Lounge indicating a sense of superiority about not posting on GD about the topic while waxing eloquent about kitties and such.

This is so perfect right now, especially in light of Cheney's comments about John Kerry back in 2004. Cheney really has gotten payback. :)

Only the facts are necessary, you can't make this shit up. And since when are we Democrats required to give these assholes a break? Remember Ken Starr? Oh yeah, he was in the news recently.

91. I say talk the hell out of it!
THIS is the kind of stuff that fascinates people, not wonky political shit we like to talk about here. It's simple and as you said, funny, deranged, and weird. God, it's almost as shocking and titillating as the Almighty Semen Stained Blue Dress! It's a perfectly encapsulated metaphor for the sinister incompetence of this administration. The Vice President SHOT someone! That's some crazy shit!!!
