I had a friend in college that would bird hunt |
|
I've never been as big on bird hunting. I don't have a dog, or really know many people thst bird hunt. I wouldn't mind it; it's just that the situation doesn't come up often.
Anyway, a friend of mine in college used to bird hunt. He went with this other guy we called 'Toad' once. Never would go again with him, either-he claimed that he flushed a covey, and Toad followed the covey right around and aimed right at him. Didn't pull the trigger, just aimed at him. Toad lost his respect that moment permanently. I believe that that might even be part of how Toad got his name. Kind of like 'dumb as a toad'.
The Cheney story is bigger than a lot of people are making it out to be.

I almost got shot in the back of the head by a moron in Jasper, Texas during a squirrel hunt. The squirel ran across the road in front of me about 15 feet and the yahoo behind me took a shot at it. I thought I was being buzzed by a wasp, becuase the bullet passed right by my right ear. What Cheney did was purely negligent and should be reported as such. Anyone who is that trigger happy should not be allowed to hunt with anyone else in the vicinity. I taught people how to bird-hunt many years ago (in my youth) and have hunted in parties of three quite often, but the standing rule is, if the bord changes direction and passes out of your 20 degree (approximate) swing range, the gun goes straight up and the other hunter (closest) takes the shot. None of this BS about accidentally swinging on one of your hunting partners. That really is BS. It was negligence and should be documneted and reported as such.
