2 words for anyone who believes the David Gregory /Scotty act |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 07:52 PM by burythehatchet
General Electric.
Gregory's role is pretty obvious to me - raise the temp early in the press conference so the rest of the room naturally feels like the "major issue" has been covered and when its their turn they really can't go after Scotty. (Except Helen, of course).
I don't believe that Gregory and Scotty's exchanges are honest.

2. I think they are. The rest of the room does not have to let the issue go, |
|
but they do every time, because most are there collecting a pay check and not doing their jobs. I have to disagree with you on this.

30. Well I agree with you here. You have every right to make us all think |
|
We could easily be swayed by bull shit. None of us are immune from that, so while I personally disagree with your observation, make no mistake that you raise this point most certainly make me reflect on what I observed in the past on Gregory. So in that respect I don't think you were out of line. We have all (at least liberals) been so abused by the press I can completely understand why you are a skeptic, but I just personally think Gregory is the wrong one to find fault with when so many other in that room just don't follow through or deliberately through softballs and should be called out.

9. I don't agree - Gregory usually gets going AFTER Scotty |
|
ducks another reporter's question. Gregory is like the teacher telling the students, "for crying out loud, don't let it drop because he challenged you". Because most of the reporters just sigh and give up after the non-answers.

Yesterday they got into it outside of the briefing. It got pretty ugly. junior has tried to humiliate David on different occasions too. I don't think there's any love lost there.

|
Well, at least I don't think so.
I'd still like to believe that there are some journalists and editors who want to get at the truth and do stand up to their corporations.
It has been rare lately, but I think DG is the real deal.

Gregory has been the rare tough questioner in the breifing room for quite a while.
I've also listened to him on other interviews. I think David is trying to be a real reporter, and going as far as his bosses are willing to let him go.

I don't understand why some folks think everything that looks even halfway good is just a big lie. Not trying to call anyone out or anything. That's just my opinion, and I respect that others' opinions are different than mine.

17. so if they don't ask questions they are shills |
|
if they ask friendly questions they are shills.
And if they ask argumentative or probing questions they are shills?
What would count a non-shill? Really...I'm curious because I think we work ourselves into a corner fast when we reject EVERYONE's efforts.

32. I love Helen, and she's always nice about replying to emails |
|
but unless there's something specific about David Gregory that shows him to be a plant or mole I'm afraid I see nothing except circular logic and assertions counter to what we do in fact see from him day in and day out.
In the absense of something personal about him that you know that we don't...I've got to go with what I actually see him do...and that is (and a rarity it is) the job of a reporter.
Helen made the mistake of saying Bush was the worst president ever. I lover he for it. But I think that and her nailing the Iraqi war to Ari's forehead was why they were able to do that to her. And even then they stopped short of revoking her press pass.
I suspect DG is on the edge of getting the HT treatment. But until he makes a "personal" statement I'm guessing they dont' quite dare to nail him as well.
Marginalizing one elderly lady doesn't take guts. It takes contempt. DG has a slightly louder voice so pushing him to the back might create more of a fight than they are ready for in the press room.
That doesn't mean I "know some truth" about DG. But the "GE" owns them all logic doesn't prove much to me either.

Scotty is playing him for a fool and he doesn't want to play anymore. Every interview I have ever seen where Gregory is the guest, he is non-confrontational and quite a likable guy, but he does show his disgust for this administration.
Gregory knows he is loosing his cool and he wishes that he wasn't. But, it is what it is and he is frustrated beyond civility anymore.
He's not Les for goodness sake.

Gregory's a good egg. He thinks McClellan is lying like a little puke and Gregory is exactly right.
