AS LONG AS HE CAN GET A F$CKING SEARCH WARRANT!!!!!!

to grab the power to spy on americans without a search warrant is as unamerican as you can get. it says it was cool when king george iii did that sort of thing to the colonists. it says when hitler did that sort of thing to germans is was also just peachy. it says what nixon did to the democrats was fine and dandy.

it says american values and principals aren't worth fighting for, and they aren't worth dying for. survival by any means is all that matters, the threat to our very lives is so vast, so imminent, that we can't afford the ideals previous generations of soldiers died for.

THIS IS BEYOND RIDICULOUS!!!!!!

if congress stands by and does nothing, then they are complicit in raising the WHITE FLAG of SURRENDER to dictatorship and a complete abdication of all that america once stood for. is impeachment necessary? i'd love to see that, but at a minimum, SHUT THE PROGRAM DOWN!

somebody please do SOMETHING to reassure us that this is STILL the united states of america!

1. While I hate the spying, what really fries me is the lawbreaking
There is a way, legally, to spy. What frosts my cookies is that Mr.bush didn't bother to follow the law but chose to just go ahead and do whatever the hell he wanted to.

3. exactly. that's the whole point.
by bypassing the warrants, he's grabbing the power to spy for ANY reason. just because the reason AT THE MOMENT is ostensibly national security doesn't mean he won't later (or hasn't already) used it for other means.

which include:

letting friends and donors spy on their spouses to find out if they're cheating
letting friends and donors eavesdrop on sex talk.
letting friends and donors spy on political opponents.

this is the kind of UNFETTERRED POWER that shrub is proudly claiming for himself.

and for a future president hillary, of course. but on the off chance a democrat ever gets in the oval office, suddenly the banana republicans will remember all that patriotic mumbo-jumbo and shut the program down....

What about freedom from secret police? From political spying?

"I think most Americans understand the need to find out what the enemy's thinking, and that's what we're doing," Mr. Bush told reporters in San Antonio as he visited wounded soldiers at the Brooke Army Medical Center.

Hell, the way this President thinks, Gore is an enemy, Dean is an enemy, Kerry is an enemy, MoveOn is an enemy, DU IS AN ENEMY!
