Why is Ann Coulter the way she is? |
|
I'm just wondering out loud here about her personality. She can be entertaining to watch and listen to because of her wierd behavior! But seriously folks, her right wing commentaries aside, does anyone have insight into what is wrong with her?
There is something there, because she is perpetually hyper and angry!

43. Given what almost all of the Coulter jokes are about... |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 02:42 AM by UncleSepp
... I did jump to a conclusion. It's not an unreasonable one, though. Read down the thread (or in any thread that deals with Coulter) and you'll see why I'm a little touchy. The trans jokes are constant. Do you really think that's something to roll your eyes at? Would perhaps a "Hey, I didn't mean it like that" be a better response than snarky eye rolling smileys, or do you really just plain not give a crap?
On edit: By the way, why did you assume that I do not know that women need testosterone too, and can have too much or too little? FYI that's also a very incorrect assumption. I am just curious about why you made it, and if I should roll my eyes at you now.

45. "Jokes" like this are hurtful to transgendered people, and their friends |
|
Coulter is also a racist, but DUers don't go around saying "Ooh, she's secretly black!" or calling her AfricANN, because we all know that's hurtful and offensive. It's time for transphobia and homophobia to be regarded similarly.

47. Not only that, but "tranny" is one of those words like "dyke" |
|
"Tranny" is more of a porn word or a derogatory word, right up there with "chicks with dicks". It ought to be used with as much care as "fag" or "dyke", in other words, probably not at all unless it has already been made clear that one is transgendered and is using the word in an empowering rather than insulting and demeaning way. Perhaps the poster is trans, but without knowing that, the word comes across as very insulting.
Also, calling a transperson "that person" or "it" or "he/she" is also demeaning and insulting. One refers to a transgendered person as he or she, depending on whether he or she is presenting as male or female. Calling a transwoman "he" or a transman "she" is thoroughly devaluing: it implies that a transperson is not of the gender he or she lives, is not of his or her brain gender, but of his or her birth-assigned gender. It reduces men to nothing more than testicles and women to nothing more than wombs, and it invalidates the entire transgendered experience with a simple little word.
That's why referring to Ann Coulter as a man is insulting to all transfolk. She's a nasty, nasty woman, but she's a woman. Give her hell, but give us that.

10. Attention Getting Mechanism |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 10:16 PM by DELUSIONAL
She gets attention by being stupid -- she is a very sick person.
She wants attention -- even if that attention is negative.
Thus her name comes up way too often.
Why am I responding?
I have a degree in Psychology and have studied abnormal behavior.
Mostly I ignore the bitch -- but I am very fascinated in the way people respond to her psychopathic behavior.
Great minds think alike? See comment above mine.

30. I'm no psychologist, but have been around some |
|
mentally ill people. I figure there is something wrong with her apart from quirky personality traits. Many posters to this thread believe she is financially motivated, suggesting that she does not believe half of what she says. I think she does believe it, but likes making money from doing what she loves.
Trying to get attention makes sense and perhaps ties into that.
It must be her outrageous behavior that propels her career, because it sure isn't the substance of her arguments!

12. Because That's Her 'Thing'. |
|
She's simply just exploiting the persona she's built. She doesn't care about the negative reactions, she thrives on them. She has created a persona that gets attention and airtime, and therefore marketing for her books, appearances etc...
The more attention she's given, regardless of how negative, the more it drives her to continue and even enhance her behavior.

She's a huckster. She has a cash cow formula that she perfected under the Clinton administration and she's going to keep milking it until the rubes on the right get bored with it. She also knows that if she stirs up liberals into vilifying her, she makes even more money. That's why I'm puzzled why we waste so much time on her. All we do is contribute to her bottom line. She's certainly an intellectual lightweight, even by conservative standards, so why devout so much time to parsing through her tortured prose pointing out all the misinformation and hate she spews. Apart from the fine folks over at Media Matters, I think it would be best if we just ignore her.
Personally, I think it would drive her crazy knowing that liberals no longer gave a shit what she thinks.

She has made big bucks with that shtick of hers. Whether or not she even believes half the crap that comes out of her mouth, she cashes the check. People publish her ridiculous books and pay her thousands to "speak". It's basically a lucrative scam.
Kooks like her make more "rational" Conservatives palatable. She (and Savage etc.) say what elected Rightwingers wish they could say, so the message gets out without the respectable elected official sounding like, well, Ann Coulter.

... that's a bit like asking, "why was Tiny Tim the way he was?"
It's part showbiz, part character inclination, part hucksterism. Some of it may actually be to stir people up to embrace a system that she believes in. After all, if it was all about outlandishness, she could just as easily spend her time talking soap operas and have almost as big an audience.

40. Another possible reason . . . |
|
Also, some people are just assholes and motherfuckers. Seriously. I worked with a woman that just conjured shit up out of thin air just to piss people off at each other. She went around telling other people at work that I was gay. Then she started telling them that only dated white girls. Then she started telling people how much I hated everyone else at work. The same women knew the girl I was dating at the time and began telling her that I thought the girl I was dating was annoying and that I wished she'd leave me alone. She was completely off her rocker.
Some people are just assholes who start crap and shit just to have crap and shit started. Ann Coulter is just a political shit storm starter or whatever.
