1. I saw a small (1 minute) segment about it on ABC this morning,
and it seems like the tapes were Saddam warning the US there might someday be an attack, but not from Iraq.

As a "smoking gun", those tapes were a dud.

2. They ended saying people on all sides of the Iraq issue would find
evidence for their beliefs in the tapes. What a crock.

Thanks for showing us the truth (not) instead of fanning the flames, ABC...

4. Here's an operative quote
"Terrorism is coming. I told the Americans a long time before Aug. 2 and told the British as well … that in the future there will be terrorism with weapons of mass destruction." Saddam goes on to say such attacks would be difficult to stop. "In the future, what would prevent a booby-trapped car causing a nuclear explosion in Washington or a germ or a chemical one?" But he adds that Iraq would never do such a thing. "This is coming, this story is coming but not from Iraq."

5. These tapes are supposedly from several years ago. My question:
Did anybody anywhere use the phrase "weapons of mass distruction" prior to the bushies early in the war when they gradually eased away from their original nuclear weapons BS claims?

14. Never.
Bushco coined the phrase. It's interesting that someone stamped these tapes "unclassified" and then let them be found (like the 911 passport on a gurney and the Kennedy bullet on the floor) in classic CIA style. It's all bullshit.

15. "WMD plans"....
Gosh, now we've got an excuse to invade Syria, too.

When are you joining up?

10. ABC news has the gist of them on their web site...
and it sounds like a non-issue.
The CIA says nothing new and saddam even states
any terrorist attacks on us would not come from
Iraq.

13. Here's the exact quote:
TARIQ AZIZ: There is nothing left except the Americans casting doubt that Iraq may produce biological weapons and use them for terrorism…

The serial number of every missile is known, because our suppliers were the Russians, the Soviets. Our missiles are the Russian missiles that we bought. The Russian invoices are clear, sometimes there are discrepancies, but they are checked and they were checked and it was over. This many, 100 missiles. This is the evidence and they cannot …

SADDAM HUSSEIN: The situation is a pity. Had I known that the war would end, we would have found them on Israel's head.

17. This Is The Stuff Wingnuts Live For
Dare I say, just like the tin foil hatters here love when there's some loose thread that comes open that somehow they can trace JFK's assasination to 9/11 to electoral fraud, the freepers have perfected this to a fine art and here's some goodies for them to spin and spin.

From what I've seen and read, it's a lot of talk and little more. The majority of this stuff is 10 to 15 years old and states no specifics, just scenarios.

It sounds like Saddam was trying to play BMOC...puffing up his chest and blowing shit. Of course the facts won't matter cause now the wingnuts will say this vindicates the WMD program. All it verifies that Saddam woulc have loved to have had one (no duh) and how U.S. policies were working against their interests in the region (as we can so clearly see now). Yep, that's quite a bombshell, huh.

Oh, and about those weapons...and the terrorist attack on the U.S., Saddam specifically says Iraq wasn't or won't be involved with this. He doesn't specify, but then I remember someone in the Raygun administration saying that a terrorist attack on U.S. soil was possible as far back as 1981. That's why access to the White House was first cut and the first large cement barricades went up all over the city. But to the freepers, this is a thread they've been hoping, praying, dying for...doesn't mean it's true, but it's sure better than talking about Crashcart shooting a man.
