AP: VP Accident Tale Filled With Discrepancies
VP Accident Tale Filled With Discrepancies

WASHINGTON - Vice President
Dick Cheney said he didn't immediately disclose his hunting accident because he wanted the confusing details to come out right. Instead, authorized accounts came out slowly — and often still wrong.

The result: a week of shifting blame, belatedly acknowledged beer consumption (not "zero" drinking after all) and evolving discrepancies in how the shooting happened, its aftermath and the way it was told to the nation.

<snip>

Cheney did not have all his hunting papers in order, as suggested by the White House and initially stated by Texas authorities.

On Sunday, a spokesman for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said Cheney was legally hunting with a license he bought in November. While that was true, the department's accident report the next day stated that he was in violation of a law requiring him to have an upland game bird stamp.

I thought we could not use the big sig pics so I had a friend shrink it for me. It looks much better at that size, you can make out the leggo arm better.

I am glad you like it. My son is thrilled. :)

5. The Nagging Question...Why Would You Have Guns Near A VP?
Here's a dude whose scared of his own shadow. He came out and said he fears being assasinated, yet there he is out running around with a bunch of people with loaded weapons...anyone could have "accidentally" lowered the boom on Crashcart just as much as he did to Whittington. Of course, the corporate media ignores this so they won't "offend hunters" and the NRA...but this is far deeper than that. You don't put your quarterback or running back on defense cause it's just plain stupid for the overall good of the team...in this case, having the second highest elected official of the country around people with loaded weapons isn't such a smart idea either. You'd think someone would have made a stink about that.

Of course one can go on about the alcohol discrepencies...as well as how can someone who is on so much medication (or we're led to believe) would dare to mix alcohol with all the chemicals already in his system and then go out and play with a gun? That's downright stupid and shows such a disregard not only for his own body yet alone for just plain common sense.

And, of course, I'd still like to hear what Ms. Pamela Willeford has to say about what she saw and what was going on. Also, where was Mrs. Chenney?

No doubt, Chenney actually thought he could get away with murder. Had he been able to walk away from this incident without his name on it, he'd do it in a New York minute. Had Whittington died, I'm certain he would have made sure the corpse was moved somewhere else or if Whittington had only been truly "pelleted" and could have walked away, Dick would have written a check (he probably already has) to buy silence and make Harry go away.

The corporate media and this regime is going to fight to close the books on this story this weekend...but methinks the questions have just begun.

DISCLOSURE

The accident raised questions about the flow of information into and out of the White House communications apparatus.

Asked why no one released news of the shooting on Saturday night, McClellan said "the vice president's office was working to make sure information got out" but that details were slow to reach Washington that evening.

Armstrong, for her part, said no one at the ranch even discussed releasing the news on Saturday.

She said her family realized Sunday morning that it would be a story and decided to call the local newspaper, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. She said she then discussed news coverage with Cheney for the first time.

"I said, 'Mr. Vice President, this is going to be public, and I'm comfortable going to the hometown newspaper,'" she told The Associated Press. "And he said, 'You go ahead and do whatever you are comfortable doing.'"

White House Deferred to Cheney on Shooting
In a Break With Policy, Hunting Accident Was Not Disclosed for 14 Hours
Tuesday, February 14, 2006; Page A01

<excerpt>

The White House typically releases information immediately on incidents involving the president's personal life, such as bike-riding accidents, to avoid the appearance of covering up embarrassments. It is highly unusual, if not unprecedented, for the White House to allow a private citizen serve as its de facto spokesman.

But current and former aides said the White House rarely imposes its practices, especially on press matters, on Cheney. The vice president's office often operates autonomously in a manner that many top White House officials are reluctant to challenge.

In this case, Cheney worked with family members and former aide Mary Matalin on how to handle the fallout of the shooting accident, said a person close to the vice president who demanded anonymity to talk about internal discussions.

9. DU the poll on MSNBC - freepers are winning
I posted this in another thread (sorry to post it twice, but I just realized this is the thread on "greatest page".

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11410141/

Right now, 66% say that the press should stop discussing the Cheney shooting since Whittington apologized.

34% say that there are unanswered questions that need to be investigated.
