BREAKING: Rumsfeld and Pace Not Consulted On Transfer Of Port Operations To UAE
In a press briefing today, Secretary Rumsfeld revealed that he was not consulted about the decision to transfer operations of six key U.S. ports to the United Arab Emirates, a country with troubling ties to international terrorism.

QUESTION: Are you confident that any problems with security — from what you know, are you confident that any problems with security would not be greater with a UAE company running this than an American company?

RUMSFELD: I am reluctant to make judgments based on the minimal amount of information I have because I just heard about this over the weekend.

Rumsfeld’s statement was particularly troubling because Dubai Ports World, owned and operated by the UAE government, will also take over a major contract managing the movement of military equipment for the U.S. Army. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Peter Pace, who was at the briefing, also said he found out about the deal over the weekend. The deal was approved on February 13.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan claimed the Defense Department was part of “a rigorous review…for national security concerns.” If so, why were two of the Department’s top officials not even informed, much less consulted?

1. How I wish their collective noses would grow for each lie
they tell; McClellan wouldn't be able to stand at the podium w/o doing serious damage to himself. And don't get me started on the rest of the lying liars!

2. Wha-wha-wha-WHAT!?! Rumsfeld just found out about this over the weekend?
:wtf: You have GOT to be kidding me (but I know you're not).
Well, here is what our ports will look like after the UAE takes control: :nuke:
Sure, Rumsfeld need not be involved in this kind of decision making. He is afterall, only the SECRETARY OF DEFENSE!!! :argh:

Rumsfeld: Planting Stories Under Review

WASHINGTON (AP) - Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Tuesday that the Pentagon is reviewing the U.S. military's practice of paying to plant stories in the Iraqi news media.

Rumsfeld had said in a speech last week that the controversial practice had been stopped. But he revised his words on Tuesday.

``It's under review,'' Rumsfeld said.

...

Rumsfeld also said he had no problems with a deal permitting a United Arab Emirates company to take over operations at six major U.S. seaports, a plan that has encountered stiff political opposition in Congress.

3. Since I never trust anything they say...it could be a ploy to bail their
sorry butts out of this one. Maybe they didn't expect the response they encountered. I can see Rummy sacrificing a few minions to save the evil empire.

5. I don't believe him
He always pretends that he is out of the loop, like when he was asked about the torture.

8. Was Rumsfeld asking himself that question?
It's always hard in transcripts b/c rummy likes to ask himself questions and answer them.

Now that weasel Bartlett is saying Bush didn't know about the move until just recently. Seems Bush doesn't know about a lot of important things right after they happen.
