How many of our ports are owned and/or operated by foreign entities? |
|
If we're going to demand that we should be in charge of our own ports, instead of singling out the Arabs, we should do this holistically. Just like any other story, this one will eventually blow over. If we want to make it count, we have to push the larger picture and ask the question:
"How many of our ports are owned and/or operated by foreign entities?"
Our security should not be outsourced to ANY OTHER nation.

1. Agreed, it should be done for all ports. |
|
Personally, I thing each port should be operated by a different company, to insure infiltration of one doesn't mean infiltration of several.

3. Why aren't the ports managed by the city where they exist? |

5. No idea. It seems to me a port of entry to the country would |
|
have security provided by the feds.
And hey, I give a SHIT about how much it would cost to check 99% of containers before they enter. That's just a cost of insuring safety in our imports.
And maybe, just maybe, insuring our safety is worth making foreign producers and imported goods less competitive compared to American manufacturers.

2. You are right about our ports, that they should not be run by... |
|
another nation; however, they most certainly should not be run by a terrorist nation that has already helped to kill 3000 of our citizens on our own soil, thereby ruining the lives of countless more Americans.
Excuse me, there is no other reason needed! I didn't like the idea that the British ran those ports, but they never flew planes into our buildings either.
We need not justify this any further.

4. Lets not pretend all foreign countries coddle terrorists. |
|
Cmon man. Get real here.
I agree with your point though. NO foreign country should own our infrastructure.

6. Let's not pretend that corps. owned by royalty in the UAE care |
|
about the security of America.
Indeed, lets not pretend that ANY corporation cares about ANYTHING but profits.
Port security needs to be handled by the government and it needs much more funding. I argue for USER FEES. Let the IMPORTING companies pay. Yes, that may make it too expensive to import Levi's and Fords into the USA, but damn that just breaks my hear.

7. There should not be even one. |
|
Did you even imagine it was possible? That any administration would find this a good thing?
