The whole "I'LL VETO!" thing seems rather transparent
As soon as I heard it and saw Frist riding up on his corporate bought horse, it seemed rather obvious to me that this is all a political move. A move to bring the poll numbers back up for the Repukes.

I mean, it doesn't really matter if *'s numbers come back up. Especially if the Pukes don't lose the House and/or Senate in Nov. And do they really need to do that much? They could still lose quite a few seats and still be the majority.

The way I figure, Rover has * jump on a political grenade, the Pukes come in and "save the day" all Dudley Dooright-like, and the new meme will be..."The Republicans have enough character to stand up for what they believe in, even if it's against the exalted leader".

I know I'm not the only one who had this cross their mind.

1. The democrats are putting up less of a fight for this deal than with Alito
And that wasn't even a fight.

2. Ah, but they've got the reputation of boot-lickers
For them to turn on Dear Leader NOW of all times looks like piling-on to me. And it's not "repspectful disagreement", it's showdown time.

And this ain't gonna help any Republican's poll numbers, IMO.

3. I completely agree...
This all smacks of bullshit. From the beginning this seemed just way too weird to be "real". I think they are trying to set up current House and Senate members as willing to stand up to (p)Resident Jackass to "proove" that they aren't all in his pocket.

5. Yes
I believe Mike talked about this last night. I think so too. They'll have some phony legislation bill and appear "tough" on this national security deal and Frist will take some republicans like Lindsay Graham and a few others like him so he can appear tough and macho and like a leader and they'll have a "talk" with Bush and he'll cave just like with the torture deal. Remember how McCain came out looking after that was over?

6. Had a talk with my Father today.
Total B&W Republican. Totally falls for all this admins hijinks.

I told him what I thought...and he agreed with me! He said it was the first thing to cross his mind, that it was a "political ploy".

7. I thought about that yesterday, but not today
Not with Bush claiming he didn't even know about the port sale in the first place. This is the biggest indicator to me that this is not some sort of ingenious political scheme by the Republicans, but yet another giant clusterf--- by the White House, for which they will have to spend several weeks, if not months, in damage control.
