The next time ya' think Tweety is fair, remember this...
From Hardball (12/19, about two months ago)

Last week, Matthews got very upset when the NY Times ran the "Spy-story," which he felt mucked up the President's greatest day. Even Howard Fineman felt his wrath as he tried to jump in and defend Anne Kornbluth.
Chris: "Can I ask the questions Howard?"

Howard: " Please don't hurt me." (my own phony dialogue)

Chris: So what do you think about your paper, running that story the very day of the President's greatest victory? You guys are raining on his parade, the best day of his life.

Anne: If only we were that organized...

Chris: ..if this gamble comes through and it's note clear yet. If this gamble that he can create a democracy in the middle of the Arab world, and he does it; he belongs on Mt. Rushmore....

Hey Tweety, how bout that Middle East now. Also, if you look closely you can see why Tweety was upset (hint: illegal spying).

2. Well, if Bush had created a stable, prosperous demo, I'd give him props.
But that's an if that never occurred.

When Bush says he is ignorant on a subject, it's the only time he's credible. I'm paraphrasing.

4. McAuliffe zinged him good on his crush on John McCain, though:
MCAULIFFE: Your hero, John McCain. You love John McCain. That's great. Let me tell you this, John McCain first and foremost.

MATTHEWS: Every one of these guys, including you, is a mixed bag.
That's my view. They're all a mixed bag.

MCAULIFFE: John McCain doesn't have a port in Arizona. Second of all, he can't stand George Bush. He remembers they did to him in the South Carolina primary. This is about John McCain running for president. This is presidential politics. Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, the Republican Governor of Maryland Ehrlich, Rendell.

(CROSSTALK)

MATTHEWS: He was almost John Kerry's running mate.

MCAULIFFE: He got very close. I agree with you.

Any man who was tortured for five years deserved the respect.

MATTHEWS: He's not my guy.

MCAULIFFE: I don't agree with him on this issue but he's your guy.

You're excited.

MATTHEWS: No. I get very nervous in this country, you want an honest assessment of me. I get very nervous when everybody like you and the Republicans agree on something. Then I get nervous. I like when you're fighting.
