Here's What Unions in Boston are Doing on Port Deal
I am part of a labor coalition with Teamsters 25 in Boston.

Although I could not attend this particular rally, a breakfast is scheduled on Monday to discuss further action.

Here is the article as Teamsters and others are rallying in Boston against the Bush sell-out.

<snip>

Teamsters cheered and held aloft signs saying "Secure America's Ports"-as Reardon and US Representative Steve Lynch (D-South Boston) ripped into the Bush administration's proposal

1. What can we do to help?
I've always honored picket lines, have even taken food and serenaded those on strike (including your brother Teamsters when UPS went out). I'm here in Arkansas, but if there's something I can do.....

Hold the fort,
For we are coming,
Union men be strong
Side by side we'll battle onward
Victory will come.

2. I'm glad that there were two Dem politicians there to support them

Go, Teamsters! One thing I have learned through my union membership is that the Dems DO support unions, and repukes don't. There may be exceptions, but they are rare. I've walked a picket line once, and all it took was a phone call to alert any Dem not to cross, and they wouldn't. No questions asked. It was my job to call these politicians, and most of the time they had already planned not to cross. If they were unaware of the picket line, they immediately agreed not to cross. So there's a difference in the parties for you, brothers and sisters. Union busting is a big part of this port thing, just as it is a big part of the repuke party.

3. The port masters need to deny the leases. Longshoremen are
vicious fighters ya know. Other foreign leesees won't want to piss us off by backing Dubai.

5. I support the unions
and certainly worry about the union busting aspect to this. But I think the security and selling off of America are issues that resonate with the whole country, and that the unions should stick with that and not go off into the union busting too much. Some people who are against this port deal might just be inclined to dismiss it if they can be convinced it's all just a political scam the unions cooked up. Know what I mean?
