'Straw' Breaking Harris' Back
'Straw' Breaking Harris' Back
Illegally submitted MZM contributions to Harris totaled $50,000.

By JEREMY WALLACE
New York Times Regional Newspapers

SARASOTA -- When asked in June, U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris didn't explain fully why a defense contractor was taking such interest in her re-election.

MZM Inc. employees, their spouses and the company's political action committee became Harris' biggest contributors in 2004, giving her $50,000. On one day alone, Harris collected 18 checks for $2,000 each from MZM employees and spouses.

At the time MZM offered the contributions, Harris said company officials told her they were donating to her because they planned to open a facility in Sarasota.

But new information disclosed Friday by the U.S. Justice Department shows Harris failed to mention one key detail back then -- the company's president had asked her to put in a request for federal funding for his company.

1. I never expected anything more than lies from this woman
After the 2000 Florida election fiasco. People in Florida need to GET RID OF HER before she does any more damage. Put her in jail. Take away her cosmetics. BEAUTIFY FLORIDA!

3. This not Karma. It's Criminal
On one day alone, Harris collected 18 checks for $2,000 each from MZM employees and spouses.

18 checks from one business on one day? She should be in jail!

4. Since she was formerly the Sec of State
and responsible enforcing FL election laws, she has no excuse. She knows better then anyone else what the rules are. Throw the book at her.

6. Are there enough resources to investigate/prosecute all the Rep scandals?

7. At least Josh Marshall (TPM) is cataloging their lies and the documents
having to do with their prosecutions. If we ever get any Democrats in there who would be willing to prosecute we might have a chance. That is unless the "statute of limitations" runs out.

At least there's a record in one place of all the Repug Crimes against our government. Who knows what else is out there in our states and counties. It's so massive it's hard to keep track of it all, though. I think that was their intent.

8. They bank on that...
lack of resources and the system being overwhelmed. The prosecution is extremely weak in these cases.
