Never again!!!
Assuming that we take congress this November, and perhaps the Presidency in '08, we cannot allow the media to allow the people to forget what the Republicans nearly did to us all. We have to take a subtle approach, of course, but we must come clean with the public and let it be widely known what the result of this Republican control of our government has achieved...

The lies, the war, the corruption, the destruction of the middle class and the American Dream, we can allow none of these things to be swept under the rug--not five, not ten, not twenty years from today. We must--carefully, ever so carefully--begin to craft the public's image of the Republican Party as one representing fascism and the destruction of everything America holds dear.

We allowed them to control the dialogue for far too long...allowed them to confuse the issues during the Clinton years with their overwhelming presence on the radio dial and their growing control of the corporate media.

We need to shine a bright light into every dark crevice of this administration, and its complicit congress, and make sure that not a single crime goes undiscovered, and reveal to the people of the United States and indeed the world that we understand and revile what was done in our name.

They cannot be allowed to make G.W. into another martyr for their cause, like they made Nixon. Or some sort of icon like they made Reagan.

We need to show the world exactly how evil these people are, and make a solemn vow that THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.

Or else we have learned nothing.

1. Agreed...
Even if Dems regain control of government, they can't let this administration just slink off in disgrace. They need to be held accountable for the five years of lies, crimes against the constitution and war crimes. The world will demand that we do.

2. I'm not sure if we will ever get the truth out
I think too many will just want to move on. We have to make sure the truth is known.

4. Just moving on
will result in their regrouping and coming back at us 10, 15, or 25 years from now.

11. Yep...
And it's EXACTLY the same folks. That should NEVER been the case, and probably wouldn't if we had've been on top of their game from the beginning. We wanted to put it behind us, and hope for the best, and let the whole gang slip right back into power.

12. After Watergate, a lotta pundits seriously predicted the demise...
...of the Republican Party. Nobody wanted to give them money for fear it would be laundered to pay criminals. Their bread-and-butter, raising huge sums of cash, dried up.
So they started this campaign of lying their asses off....

17. We must NOT move on. We must NEVER forget what these treasonous bastards
did to our country. We must make sure NO ONE EVER FORGETS. Just as the European countries have taken specific steps to make sure their citizens never forget the nazi scourge, so must we. We must demand that the rise of the American corporate aristocracy that almost destroyed the Republic never be forgotten.

Also we need to outlaw all things classified unless it is strict military moves during a war where this country is about to be invaded.

8. no
"The Fairness Doctrine is a former policy of the United States's Federal Communications Commission. It required broadcast licensees to present controversial issues of public importance, and to present such issues in an honest, equal and balanced manner.

In Red Lion Broadcasting Co. v. FCC <1> (1969), the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Fairness Doctrine, under challenges that it violated the First Amendment. Although similar laws had been deemed unconstitutional when applied to newspapers (and the court, five years later, would unanimously overturn a Florida statute on newspapers), the Court ruled that radio stations could be regulated in this way because of the scarcity of radio stations. Critics of the Red Lion decision have pointed out that most markets then and now are served by a greater number of radio stations than newspapers."

9. Besides, a Constitutional Amendment
in support of the Fairness Doctrine would modify the 1st Amendment.

13. three words: statute of limitations
Jerry Nadler pointed this out a couple months back---even after Bush is out of office the statute of limitations hasn't run out.

21. The thought of this makes me smile.
We swear in a new president in January of 2009...and instead of riding off in their limos, Bush and company are taken away from the ceremony in handcuffs.

14. Agreed...but...
...How do we do this to make SURE that it never happens again?
Look at the 27 second attention span that we've developed due to these constant and egregious abuses coming to light, one after another.
Can anyone remember, right off the bat, what we were up in arms about (besides the War On Christmas) in December?
How can we make this stick? It's a depressingly long list.
How can we make sure that this doesn't become again 'business as usual'?

15. By creating a groundswell from the bottom up...
Not by pounding it through the corporate media, even if we could trust them to do it.

Each Republican has purged the good people who run this county and put in toadys. We need to first clean house, then indict and then make sure adults know what happended and kids learn history so they don't make the same mistake.

We have to have honest people in power as well.
