Man, Did Mathews Make Me Queasy This Evening
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 10:23 PM by CrackpotAmerica
. .. Caught a glimpse of his show tonight. It was odd watching him keep a poker face while discussing Abramoff. He looked like a little kid who was denouncing bad little kid things that he participated in whilst lying to his mom after all the other kids got snagged.

I was hoping that Katrina vanden Heuvel was going to let something slip on him... Darn! Maybe next time.

Anyone else notice that?

He should be...he is caught in the intrigue.

4. Yep, he hitched his star to the wrong wagon and it
will drag him to his end. I remember when Chris was a good columnist who wrote the truth as he was able to discover it.

8. Tweety knows this is serious stuff and it's been a busy day.
Between WV and the mining tragedy, Sharon, and Abramoff, he had to make some quick decisions.
I am, as usual, pissed that he doesn't give Katrina more time; she is SO smart and composed and
a great liberal role model; I wish she'd replace Donna Brazille and any other wishy-washy Dem out
there!

11. I'd love to know if Abramoff gave Tweety's brother any money
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 10:39 PM by txindy
Isn't he running for office in PA? I believe he is. We already know that Tweety participated in fundraising for Jack's bogus charity, so at least one of the Matthews boys is in it up to his unnaturally-coiffed hair.

16. But does Tweety know it was bogus? How could he
continue to report this if he's so immeshed in it? I have doubts... I think he's disgusted, frustrated, and probably involved like the Dems are supposed to be involved :eyes:
Or I'm totally in dream land! I just don't know!

19. I don't think he can win either way.
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 10:51 PM by txindy
If he didn't know the charity was bogus (i.e., it didn't distribute the money raised to the "poor"), then he didn't bother to make even a cursory check and his journalism skills suck. That doesn't look good, not even for a talking head. It's his JOB, after all.

If he did know the charity was bogus, but went along for the exposure (flesh-pressing - and I've just grossed myself out. Eww!), he's toast. That doesn't look good, either. His judgment - or lack thereof - will rob him of credibility on a show called 'Hardball'.

If his brother is involved, the stakes are much higher for both of them. Tweety's a talking head. His brother is a pol.

Just speculating. Mostly because it's fun and Tweety's a tool. Oh, and did I mention that Tweety's a tool? A tool is he. Yep.

:toast:

Adding: Russert was up to his neck in Plamegate, yet held his tongue for months. All the journalists and talking heads involved did. So, yes, I believe Tweety would go on and on about this even if he's involved, too.

22. No record of Abramoff donating to Tweety's brother
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 11:02 PM by Straight Shooter
Here's the link to all the beneficiaries of Abramoff's direct contributions. Supposing that Matthews' brother has the same last name, there's no record that he received any money. Whether Matthews' brother is part of a political organization and he indirectly received a benefit from Abramoff's contribution, I can't tell from the list of names. Of course, if it was indirect, I'm not going to cast blame on him no more than I would a Dem who was unaware of the source.

23. It's not the listed contributions the feds are following.
I'm just speculating, but Abramoff's influence is pervasive. Why would Tweety call Jack "Satan?" Sounds personal to me and Tweety is always blathering on about his brother, the repub pol.

25. I don't know any more about it than you do.
I think Tweety called him "Satan" because he's trying to make Abramoff look like the super bad guy, as opposed to those who were ready, willing and able to make deals with Abramoff. Jack is no more of a Satan figure than any other crooked wheeler-dealer. He just happened to come along when the Republican culture of corruption was ripe for the pickin'.

Now, Grover Norquist ..... that's Satan.

10. Didn't he say something about being "impressed" with Abramoff?

I'm not sure if I heard this right...But didn't Matthews (with his strangely distorted SMILE on his face) say that he was "impressed with Abramoff...in an amoral way"... It was something like that....and then he quickly reigned himself. It was something about being impressed at how Abramoff was able to make all these deals happen. It was creepy.

15. I'm a hard core progressive, and I really can't stand Kathrina V.H.
she just makes me ill. she gets in a few talking points, but she never ever reveals what she knows, not ever, so you can pack away any hope for "maybe next time". The one thing that saved her from my complete ire today, was her mentioning Russ Feingold on the matter of Lobbying Reform.

But I DO agree that it was sickening to watch Chris do the poker face thing on this subject and dance a few details.

Wonder how many people are calling Tweety on this "conflict of interest"? , and MSNBC?

I'd really wish someone with the inside scoop would posts about that here.

21. I have rarely seen Katrina V.H. even interviewed, especially
on Hardball. She usually gets about 2-4 minutes, and that's up against a repug. I've wondered why she even bothers. But I really think she's smart and would be valuable if she was given some real time to express herself.
I also like her articles/editorials.

that he helped to get started and where a lot of this money is being funneled.

and I thought Matthews looked a bit shell shocked. I certainly could have been reading something into his expression, though.
